Ensuring Energy Continuity: British Gas Welcomes Former Rebel Energy Clients

(IN BRIEF) British Gas is stepping in to secure the energy supply for Rebel Energy customers after the latter ceased trading. Serving around 84,000 domestic and 6,000 non-domestic customers, Rebel Energy’s clientele will now be covered by Ofgem’s Supplier of Last Resort process. British Gas is currently setting up accounts and will be reaching out directly to affected customers with detailed instructions, including the need for meter readings when possible. In the interim, customers are advised to refer to a dedicated online resource for updates. Group Chief Executive Chris O’Shea emphasized that the transition will be seamless and highlighted that the new customers would benefit from various exclusive service offers. This move is part of a broader initiative, with British Gas having previously supported 700,000 customers from nine other failed suppliers since 2021.

(PRESS RELEASE) WINDSOR, 8-Apr-2025 — /EuropaWire/ — Following last week’s announcement that Rebel Energy Supply Limited (Rebel Energy) would cease operations, British Gas is set to safeguard its customers by ensuring they receive an uninterrupted supply of gas and electricity. Rebel Energy, which caters to approximately 84,000 domestic households along with 6,000 non-domestic clients, now finds its consumers protected under Ofgem’s Supplier of Last Resort mechanism.

At present, British Gas is busy establishing new accounts, and in the coming days, Rebel Energy customers will be contacted directly regarding the details and procedures of the transition. There is no need for customers to reach out on their own. When prompted, new customers should provide an accurate meter reading if possible; all other elements of the switchover will be managed by British Gas, which will also remain on hand to address any queries during this period.

Additional information about the forthcoming steps will be communicated as soon as possible. In the meantime, customers are encouraged to visit a dedicated webpage for guidance and updates.

Chris O’Shea, Group Chief Executive of Centrica, expressed his enthusiasm about the impending transition by stating, “We are excited to welcome thousands of former Rebel Energy customers into the British Gas family. Our goal is to ensure that the switchover is as smooth as possible. As a brand trusted by millions, our new customers will benefit from an array of advantages including exclusive offers on services such as boiler cover, Hive products, and PeakSave.”
