EIF and EIB mobilise €370 million via securitisation with Santander to support women entrepreneurs and sustainable farming

EIF and EIB mobilise €370 million via securitisation with Santander to support women entrepreneurs and sustainable farming

(IN BRIEF) The EIB Group and Santander have structured a €250 million securitisation—comprising a €200 million EIF guarantee with ING and a €50 million EIB investment—to support Spanish SMEs, mid-caps, agricultural enterprises and women entrepreneurs. This transaction is expected to mobilise up to €370 million: €270 million for green transition lending and women’s entrepreneurship, and €100 million for sustainable agriculture projects under the EIB’s Pan-European Agricultural Programme (including 10 percent for young farmers). The deal aligns with eight EIB Group priorities, from climate action to the Capital Markets Union, and exemplifies the Bank’s use of financial instruments to de-risk investments and channel private capital into strategic, sustainable initiatives.

(PRESS RELEASE) LUXEMBOURG, 19-Jun-2025 — /EuropaWire/ — The EIB Group has partnered with Santander to execute a €250 million securitisation aimed at expanding financing for Spanish SMEs, mid-caps, the agricultural sector and women entrepreneurs. Through this single transaction, the European Investment Fund provides a €200 million bilateral guarantee via ING, unlocking up to €270 million for green transition loans to small businesses, mid-caps, women-led ventures and sustainable consumer credit. Simultaneously, the European Investment Bank commits €50 million to mobilise an additional €100 million dedicated exclusively to agricultural projects—ranging from regenerative farming practices and climate-adapted crop financing to water management infrastructure and working capital for resilient operations. Approximately 10 percent of this agri-fund will support young and newly established farmers, including enabling land acquisition under the Pan-European Agricultural Programme launched by the EIB in 2024.

This operation advances multiple EIB Group strategic priorities—bolstering Europe’s agriculture and bioeconomy, accelerating climate action, fostering women’s entrepreneurship, enhancing regional cohesion and deepening the EU Capital Markets Union. By deploying securitisation, the EIB Group reduces risk for sponsoring banks, attracts private co-investors and mobilises fresh capital for sustainable growth across key sectors.
