DNV secures contract to oversee quality for Net Zero Teesside Power and Northern Endurance Partnership CCS projects

(IN BRIEF) DNV has been awarded a three-year contract to provide quality assurance and inspection services for Net Zero Teesside Power and the Northern Endurance Partnership, two cornerstone CCS projects in North East England. Covering everything from equipment inspections to on-site quality control, DNV will support the projects through construction and into operation. NEP, a joint venture between bp, Equinor and TotalEnergies, will develop CO₂ transport and storage infrastructure, while NZT Power, a bp and Equinor collaboration, will generate 742 MW of low-carbon electricity — enough to power more than one million homes. The projects form the backbone of the East Coast Cluster and are expected to drive both emissions reductions and regional growth in Teesside.

(PRESS RELEASE) BÆRUM, 25-Aug-2025 — /EuropaWire/ — DNV has been chosen to provide quality assurance and inspection services for two of the UK’s most important carbon capture and storage (CCS) developments — Net Zero Teesside Power (NZT Power) and the Northern Endurance Partnership (NEP). The three-year contract will see DNV play a central role in ensuring construction and operational standards are met as the UK advances its industrial decarbonization ambitions.

The Northern Endurance Partnership, a joint venture led by bp, Equinor and TotalEnergies, is building the pipeline and offshore systems that will carry captured CO₂ from Teesside and Humber industries to permanent storage beneath the North Sea. Alongside this, NZT Power — a collaboration between bp and Equinor — is set to deliver the world’s first gas-fired power station designed with integrated carbon capture, capable of generating 742 megawatts of low-carbon electricity. Once complete, the plant will supply enough power for more than a million homes.

DNV’s scope will extend from quality control of equipment and materials to on-site inspection and assurance as the projects move through construction to full operation. This oversight will help safeguard performance, safety and reliability across the large-scale infrastructure.

“These projects are not only key to achieving the UK’s climate goals, but they also bring new opportunities for skills, investment and employment in Teesside,” said Mariagrazia Silva, Regional Operations Manager for Europe, Inspection at DNV. “Being part of this transformation is a proud moment for our team.”

For DNV’s global inspection business, the award underscores the momentum gained since expanding into low-carbon energy in 2021. “Providing assurance for projects of this scale reflects the trust leading developers place in DNV to help deliver a safer, more sustainable energy future,” added Mohamed Houari, Global Managing Director for Inspection at DNV. “Supporting both NZT Power and NEP marks an important step in our UK journey and in the growth of CCS as a cornerstone of the energy transition.”

Together, NZT Power and NEP form the backbone of the East Coast Cluster, widely seen as the UK’s most advanced industrial decarbonization programme. By overseeing quality and safety throughout delivery, DNV will contribute to the UK’s position as a global frontrunner in carbon capture and storage.
