Continental and trinamiX Earn CES Innovation Award for Advanced Driver Monitoring Display

(IN BRIEF) Continental, in partnership with trinamiX, has won a CES Innovation Award for its Invisible Biometrics Sensing Display, which integrates advanced driver and passenger monitoring technologies invisibly behind an OLED screen. The display features 3D distance mapping for optimized airbag deployment, seat belt detection, and biometric imaging to monitor vital signs such as heart rate. This cutting-edge solution, powered by AI and trinamiX’s technology, enhances vehicle safety while maintaining sleek interior design. Continental will showcase this innovation at CES 2025, highlighting its commitment to advancing mobility and user-centric solutions.

(PRESS RELEASE) BABENHAUSEN, 20-Nov-2024 — /EuropaWire/ — Continental, in collaboration with technology partner trinamiX, has been recognized as a CES Innovation Award Honoree for its groundbreaking Invisible Biometrics Sensing Display, which integrates advanced monitoring technologies invisibly behind an OLED dashboard display. This cutting-edge solution will be unveiled at the 2025 Consumer Electronics Show (CES) in Las Vegas, held January 7–10, 2025.

The display features an embedded camera and eye-safe laser dot projector that are completely hidden behind the screen, allowing for seamless integration into vehicle interiors. It provides a range of safety and comfort functionalities, including 3D distance mapping to optimize airbag deployment, seat belt usage detection, and biometric imaging to monitor vital parameters like heart rate. This data enables the system to detect stress or medical emergencies and trigger appropriate safety measures to protect passengers and other road users.

“Our innovative display combines advanced functionality with sleek, invisible integration, enhancing user acceptance and opening new design possibilities for car interiors,” said Pavel Prouza, Head of the User Experience (UX) business area at Continental.

Award-Winning Safety and Monitoring Features

The Invisible Biometrics Sensing Display represents a leap forward in vehicle safety and monitoring technology. It uses biometric imaging developed by trinamiX, a BASF subsidiary, to analyze light point reflections emitted by the laser dot projector. Algorithms powered by artificial intelligence then process this data to provide insights such as passenger distance from the cockpit, seat belt status, and vital signs.

Wilfried Hermes, Director of Consumer Electronics North America and Europe at trinamiX, highlighted the uniqueness of the solution: “Our biometric imaging technology offers contactless monitoring of vital signs and passenger data through a single hardware module, setting a new standard for vehicle interiors.”

Recognition at CES 2025

The CES Innovation Award, received in the “Vehicle Tech and Advanced Mobility” category, underscores Continental’s expertise in user-centric design and its commitment to advancing mobility solutions. The invisible integration of sensors not only enhances functionality but also enables a sleek design aesthetic for modern car interiors.

Continental’s latest innovations, including the Invisible Biometrics Sensing Display, will be showcased at CES 2025 in a private exhibit in Central Plaza, opposite the Las Vegas Convention Center. The company’s technologies span a broad spectrum, from vehicle safety to cloud-connected mobility solutions.

An exclusive media event is scheduled for January 7, offering attendees a closer look at Continental’s cutting-edge advancements in automotive technology.
