CCRM Nordic and AFRY Join Forces to Launch Sweden’s Next-Gen ATMP Production Facility

(IN BRIEF) CCRM Nordic is building a new ATMP production facility in GoCo Health Innovation City, Sweden, to support the development of next-generation gene, cell, and tissue-based therapies. AFRY will serve as engineering partner and project manager, leading the design, installation, and GMP compliance. The lab will feature a flexible layout to accommodate various types of ATMP production and multiple users. The facility is expected to be completed by mid-2026, with manufacturing permits anticipated by 2027, reinforcing Sweden’s strategy to lead in sustainable pharmaceutical innovation.

(PRESS RELEASE) SOLNA, 16-Apr-2025 — /EuropaWire/ — CCRM Nordic has announced the establishment of a cutting-edge facility in Mölndal’s GoCo Health Innovation City for the production of advanced therapy medicinal products (ATMPs)—a transformative class of treatments using genes, cells, or tissues to combat serious and previously incurable diseases. To ensure successful delivery of this ambitious project, AFRY has been appointed as the engineering partner and project manager.

Aimed at supporting Sweden’s national vision for pioneering, sustainable pharmaceutical solutions, the facility will be designed to enable flexible, high-standard ATMP manufacturing. AFRY will oversee the full engineering design and planning of the lab while providing vital expertise in installation, construction, and validation. The collaboration also includes AFRY’s support in ensuring compliance with Good Manufacturing Practice (GMP), a critical benchmark for pharmaceutical safety and quality. Construction is set for completion in Q2 of 2026, with production permits expected by 2027.

As a non-profit organisation, CCRM Nordic focuses on accelerating the commercialisation of ATMPs, with the goal of enabling new treatment possibilities and advancing personalised medicine. The facility’s modular and adaptable layout is designed to support multiple stakeholders in the development and production of diverse ATMP therapies.

Fredrik Wessberg, CEO of CCRM Nordic, highlighted the significance of the partnership: “Working with AFRY represents a crucial step in delivering this state-of-the-art facility. Their deep knowledge in GMP compliance, project management, and engineering gives us full confidence that we are building not just for today’s pharmaceutical needs, but for the innovations of tomorrow.”

Martin Öman, Head of Division Industrial & Digital Solutions at AFRY, added: “We’re proud to be part of a project that will enable groundbreaking medical treatments. This partnership with CCRM Nordic aligns with our commitment to supporting future-focused healthcare innovations.”

Designed for scalability and excellence, the new lab will play a vital role in strengthening Sweden’s ATMP ecosystem, offering a secure and future-ready environment for medical innovation.
