Brewers Association (BA) selected DB Schenker as Official Logistics Supplier for the World Beer Cup in Denver

Specialities from around the world are brought to the “Olympics of Beer” into the USA – Particular requirements for food imports

Frankfurt/Denver, 18-3-2014 — /EuropaWire/ — Every two years, the best brewers in the world enter their finest beers into what many consider the “Olympics of Beer” – the World Beer Cup® – presented by the Brewers Association (BA). As Official Logistics Supplier of the Brewers Association, experts of DB Schenker coordinated and consolidated shipments by country or region and ship beer entries and forms directly to judges for evaluation. DB Schenker managed the transportation, warehousing and customs clearance, saving brewery entrants time and money. Especially for smaller breweries outside the United States it would be difficult to find the way in the U.S. trade and customs regulations without the professional support of Schenker, Inc., in Denver.

“The years of experience as well as the perfect interaction within our global network have proven themselves,” says Jochen Müller, Board Member of Schenker Deutschland AG, responsible for Air Freight and Sports and Event logistics. “It is particularly important as a large part of the brewery’s customers do have only little export experience and food imports to the USA are subject to special requirements.”

“This is a big deal for the brewing industry. It is truly an international competition,” observes Malcolm Heath, CEO Schenker, Inc.. “The last contest saw an impressive field of 3,921 entries from 799 breweries in 54 countries. This year, 800 breweries from more than 50 countries with 4,000 different beers are applying. With our worldwide network DB Schenker is ideally placed to bring the shipments in time to the competition.”

In Germany, the experts from DB SCHENKERsportsevents are the contact persons for 45 large and small breweries throughout Germany. The German beer samples have been shipped from the breweries by air freight to the USA.

Entries will be judged between April 6 and 8, 2014, by an international panel of 220 beer judges from 31 countries. Gold, silver and bronze awards in the competition’s 95 beer-style categories will be announced April 11, 2014, during the World Beer Cup Gala Awards Dinner in Denver, Colorado.
