Borealis Introduces Borcycle CWT120CL with 85 Percent PCR Content for High‑Performance Flexible Packaging

(IN BRIEF) Borealis launches Borcycle™ CWT120CL, a recycled linear low‑density polyethylene containing 85 percent post‑consumer content, tailored for non‑food flexible packaging. Manufactured at Ecoplast’s Wildon plant using Erema’s Intarema® extrusion system, the grade benefits from advanced purification—Counter Current preconditioning, dual‑stage filtration, and degassing—to achieve high purity and consistency. Erema’s ecoSAVE® enhancements reduce energy consumption by up to 12 percent. Borcycle CWT120CL supports applications like stretch films and agricultural hoods, aligns with EU PPWR recycled‑content mandates coming into effect in 2030, and exemplifies Borealis’s We4Customers strategy through performance, sustainability, and regulatory readiness.

(PRESS RELEASE) VIENNA, 28-Jul-2025 — /EuropaWire/ — Borealis today unveils Borcycle™ CWT120CL, an advanced recycled linear low‑density polyethylene (rLLDPE) designed specifically for demanding non‑food flexible packaging. Boasting an impressive 85 percent post‑consumer recycled (PCR) content, this grade sets a new benchmark for sustainable performance.

As part of the Borcycle™ M portfolio of mechanically recycled polyolefins, CWT120CL combines a markedly reduced carbon footprint with the strength and flexibility required by applications such as stretch film, protective covers, and agricultural hoods. Production takes place at Ecoplast’s Wildon, Austria facility, where Erema’s Intarema® extrusion technology ensures the highest levels of purity and consistency.

Erema’s Intarema® line features a Preconditioning Unit with patented Counter Current technology, a dual‑stage laser filter and filtration system, and double degassing—all engineered to eliminate contaminants and deliver uniform quality. This state‑of‑the‑art setup also consumes up to 12 percent less energy thanks to Erema’s ecoSAVE® innovations, further minimizing environmental impact.

“Enabling circularity in flexible packaging is our core mission,” says Clemens Kitzberger, Business Development Manager Post Consumer Recycling at EREMA Group. “We’re proud that our technology underpins Borcycle CWT120CL’s performance and sustainability.”

Borealis Vice President Marketing Consumer Products Peter Voortmans adds, “Borcycle CWT120CL embodies our We4Customers strategy by offering customers a high‑performance recycled solution that aligns with the incoming EU Packaging and Packaging Waste Regulation. Our collaboration with Ecoplast and Erema has made this technical milestone possible.”

Borcycle CWT120CL prepares converters and brand owners for the PPWR’s mandatory recycled‑content thresholds effective from 2030, delivering a reliable path toward regulatory compliance and ambitious sustainability goals.
