APM Terminals signs €1 billion deal with Port of Rotterdam for Maasvlakte II expansion

(IN BRIEF) APM Terminals, part of A.P. Moller – Maersk, has announced the expansion of its Maasvlakte II terminal in Rotterdam. The expansion involves a site of approximately 47.5 hectares with 1,000 meters of deep-sea quay and will increase the terminal’s capacity by approximately 2 million TEU. The Port of Rotterdam Authority is now constructing the new quay walls which will be completed by mid-2024, and the new section is expected to be operational in the second half of 2026. The expansion will be a confirmation of Rotterdam’s importance for global supply chains and APM Terminals’ global network. The additional section of the terminal will operate with net-zero emissions and will be fully automated and prepared for shore power installation.
