(PRESS RELEASE) ROTTERDAM, 31-Jan-2024 — /EuropaWire/ — The Port of Rotterdam, the largest seaport in Europe, is pleased to announce the appointment of Hanna Stelzel as the Director of Containers, effective from March 1. In her new role, Stelzel will oversee all container-related activities across the sea, port, and hinterland within the Commercial department. She succeeds Hans Nagtegaal, bringing with her a background in the German automotive industry, logistics, and digitalization. Stelzel has been part of the Port of Rotterdam Authority since 2018, holding various positions where she has made significant contributions to enhancing supply chain efficiency. Her primary objective will be to ensure the streamlined and sustainable handling of containers throughout the Rotterdam supply chain.

As the Port of Rotterdam aspires to strengthen its position as a leading container hub, Stelzel’s appointment reflects a broader commitment to evaluate not only the capacity and efficiency of container terminals but also the entire container chain. With the goal of accommodating an additional 8 million TEU by 2035 in a secure, efficient, and sustainable manner, there is a pressing need for seamless integration between sea and hinterland operations, alongside the optimization of connections between the port and hinterland. Effective collaboration with industry stakeholders is paramount to enhancing digital infrastructure. This ambitious endeavor necessitates information sharing and collective efforts to advance the interests of the Port of Rotterdam.

Matthijs van Doorn, Vice President Commercial at the Port of Rotterdam Authority, commented, “Container throughput will continue to grow in the coming decades. Rotterdam has made early investments into the expansion of the capacity in the port and will facilitate this growth in a sustainable and efficient manner, including into the hinterland. With her extensive experience in digital process optimisation and hinterland logistics, Hanna is the right person to help us realise these ambitions and continue to build towards a future-proof and balanced logistics system.”
