(PRESS RELEASE) HELSINKI, 13-Oct-2025 — /EuropaWire/ — Ahlstrom, a global leader in fiber-based specialty materials, has launched GreenPod Home, a breakthrough solution for the coffee pod market that has earned the OK compost HOME certification from TÜV Austria. This milestone innovation marks a major step toward making coffee consumption more sustainable by enabling pods that are both high-performing and fully compostable in household conditions.

The TÜV Austria certification confirms that GreenPod Home materials can safely biodegrade in domestic composting environments without leaving behind toxic residues or persistent microplastics. This advancement allows converters and coffee brands to create capsules that consumers can conveniently dispose of in their home compost bins, supporting a circular and eco-friendly approach to coffee packaging.

Designed to perform seamlessly on all common converting lines, the GreenPod Home portfolio ensures excellent brewing quality while meeting the growing demand for environmentally responsible materials.

“Demand for sustainable alternatives continues to drive innovation in the coffee market,” said Patrice Blanc, Head of R&D at Ahlstrom. “While Ahlstrom has long offered industrially compostable coffee solutions, this patent-pending, home-compostable technology represents a significant leap forward, reinforcing our leadership in biodegradable, fiber-based materials.”

Echoing this commitment, Philippe Sevoz, Vice President of Beverage and Casing at Ahlstrom, added: “As sustainability becomes a key priority across the packaging industry, we aim to lead by example. GreenPod Home aligns with our mission to deliver a comprehensive range of heat-sealable and non-heat-sealable home-compostable tea and coffee materials, helping our customers transition to more sustainable solutions.”

By combining performance, convenience, and environmental responsibility, Ahlstrom’s GreenPod Home positions the company at the forefront of next-generation fiber innovations in beverage packaging.
