(PRESS RELEASE) ESSEN, 25-Mar-2026 — /EuropaWire/ — HOCHTIEF, as part of the Aspire consortium, has secured a contract valued at approximately €200 million to deliver a major student accommodation project for the University of Southampton in the United Kingdom. The agreement encompasses not only the design and construction of new facilities but also their financing and long-term operation over a 50-year period, reflecting a comprehensive infrastructure partnership.

Working alongside consortium partners Cityheart Limited and Vinci Building Limited, HOCHTIEF PPP Solutions will lead the development of 1,092 new student accommodation units across the Connaught and South Stoneham campuses. The project also includes the refurbishment of 399 existing rooms and the restoration of Stoneham House, a listed historic building within the university estate. Construction is scheduled for completion by 2029.

The initiative is aligned with the University of Southampton’s strategic objective to expand its student population to 30,000 by 2031, creating increased demand for high-quality accommodation. The new and upgraded facilities are intended to support this growth while enhancing the overall student living experience.

Sustainability is a key component of the project, with all buildings designed to operate without emissions and exceed the United Kingdom’s Net Zero Carbon targets. In addition, the agreement includes measures to increase the proportion of affordable student housing within the university’s accommodation portfolio by ten percent, supporting accessibility and inclusivity.

The Aspire consortium partners bring extensive experience in delivering large-scale student housing infrastructure, having collectively developed around 30,000 student beds across the UK. This background supports the efficient execution of the Southampton project and ensures high standards in both construction and long-term operational management.

Through this contract, HOCHTIEF continues to strengthen its presence in the UK infrastructure market, combining its expertise in design, construction, financing and operations to deliver long-term value for educational institutions and their communities.
