Nokia’s Altiplano Platform Brings Unified Digital Twin Capabilities to Strengthen FTTH Reliability

(IN BRIEF) Nokia has launched advanced digital twin capabilities within its Altiplano platform, introducing a unified view of active and passive FTTH network components. The new AI-powered software tools improve visibility, accuracy, and operational efficiency for broadband operators while helping reduce costs and enhance reliability. Integrated with Nokia’s Broadband Easy platform, the solution functions across both new and existing deployments and includes the Fiber Health Analyzer and Subscriber Line Identifier applications for proactive monitoring and real-time updates. Industry analysts and partners, including fibertime, recognize the new features as essential for building more autonomous and resilient broadband networks capable of delivering faster, more reliable services to users.

(PRESS RELEASE) ESPOO, 2-Oct-2025 — /EuropaWire/ — Nokia has unveiled a new generation of software tools and AI-driven models that transform how operators manage and maintain fiber-to-the-home (FTTH) networks. Through its Altiplano platform, Nokia is introducing a digital twin technology that creates a single, unified view of both active and passive network components—bringing full transparency, higher operational efficiency, and improved network reliability to broadband providers.

The new digital capabilities address one of the most pressing challenges in FTTH rollouts: limited visibility into the passive outside plant, which often leads to inventory errors, costly repeat site visits, budget overruns, and service delays. By providing operators with a holistic and real-time view of the network, Nokia’s digital twin technology enables faster fault detection, more efficient network expansion, and enhanced broadband performance across communities.

According to Jaimie Lenderman, Principal Analyst at Omdia, “Digital twins and AI tools will be essential in building autonomous networks. By merging active and passive components into a single interface, operators can minimize service disruptions, accelerate problem resolution, and deliver more reliable and affordable broadband connectivity.”

Nokia’s Altiplano digital twin capabilities are designed to integrate seamlessly with various inventory and geospatial management systems, functioning effectively in both greenfield and brownfield deployments. The system also comes pre-integrated with Nokia’s Broadband Easy digital platform, which supports automated fiber rollout and operations.

“Our goal is to help operators eliminate the visibility gaps that complicate FTTH deployments,” said Geert Heyninck, General Manager of Broadband Networks at Nokia. “With our unified software tools and digital platforms, operators no longer need to manage active and passive networks separately. This holistic view allows issues to be detected and resolved earlier, leading to cost reductions and improved network reliability.”

Nokia’s Altiplano platform offers a real-time, automated overview of the FTTH infrastructure, continuously validating network topology, inventory, and resources. The platform now includes advanced applications such as the AI-powered Fiber Health Analyzer, which proactively monitors link performance, detects faults, and performs root cause analysis; and the Subscriber Line Identifier, which verifies splitter connections and updates inventories instantly with minimal disruption.

Danvig De Bruyn, CEO of fibertime, praised the impact of Nokia’s automation tools on operational performance: “Nokia’s AI-driven systems enhance both efficiency and network dependability. We can detect service interruptions sooner and respond faster, resulting in a stronger experience for our customers.”
