(PRESS RELEASE) BERKSHIRE, 7-Oct-2024 — /EuropaWire/ — Vodafone has introduced a new service, Smart Wi-Fi Backup, aimed at ensuring continuous internet connectivity for its fixed broadband customers during outages. Launched first in Italy under the name “Sempre Connessi,” the service is set to expand across Vodafone’s European markets in 2025. This innovative solution automatically switches a customer’s fixed broadband connection to Vodafone’s 4G or 5G network using their pre-registered smartphone, restoring internet access in less than 30 seconds without the need for any manual intervention or device reconfiguration.

Designed to be both fast and easy to use, the service requires no additional equipment like dongles and is managed via a user-friendly app available on Android and iOS. The app helps customers set up the backup system and identifies the best smartphone to use, as well as the optimal location for the device in the home to ensure the best connection quality. Additionally, customers won’t have to worry about data charges, as the service is zero-rated and compliant with net neutrality rules.

Vodafone’s Group Commercial Director, Nikos Vlachopoulos, emphasized the convenience of the service, stating, “Smart Wi-Fi Backup provides peace of mind, ensuring our customers can stay connected during broadband outages, whether they’re working on an important project or managing home security.”

The service is available to Vodafone fixed broadband customers who also have a Vodafone mobile package, and it works seamlessly with existing Vodafone Wi-Fi 5 and 6 routers. Developed in partnership with UK-based Hybrid Access Technologies, Smart Wi-Fi Backup ensures that when the fixed broadband connection is restored, all devices automatically switch back, making the transition effortless for users.
