ZF Introduces Hybrid Transmission for Eco-Friendly Waterjet Vessels

(IN BRIEF) ZF has launched the ZF 3000 NRD PTI, a new hybrid transmission designed for waterjet vessels, offering low-emission and low-noise operation with power outputs up to 1,940 kW. The transmission, which includes an electric power take-in (PTI) unit, allows vessels to maneuver efficiently in environmentally sensitive areas. ZF has already implemented this technology in patrol boats and firefighting vessels in Asia. The new transmission will be showcased at the SMM trade fair in Hamburg using augmented reality.

(PRESS RELEASE) FRIEDRICHSHAFEN 3-Sep-2024 — /EuropaWire/ — ZF, a leader in maritime propulsion systems, has introduced its latest innovation, the ZF 3000 NRD PTI hybrid transmission, designed specifically for waterjet vessels. This new transmission, which supports power outputs up to 1,940 kW, enables low-emission and low-noise operation, making it ideal for use in environmentally sensitive areas such as ports and bays.

The ZF 3000 NRD PTI incorporates an electric power take-in (PTI) unit capable of delivering up to 250 kW of electric power, allowing vessels to maneuver quietly and efficiently. This feature is particularly beneficial for yachts, ferries, patrol boats, and firefighting vessels that require rapid and precise handling. The transmission’s compact design also offers shipbuilders greater flexibility in vessel design, accommodating small engine rooms without compromising performance.

Built on the proven ZF 3000 series, the new hybrid transmission combines durability and reliability with advanced hybrid capabilities. ZF has already implemented the ZF 3000 NRD PTI in customer projects, with patrol boats and firefighting vessels in Asia currently operating with this system.

ZF will showcase the ZF 3000 NRD PTI at the SMM trade fair in Hamburg, where visitors can interactively explore the transmission through augmented reality, offering a unique and immersive experience.
