Volkswagen Maintains Global Delivery Volumes as Electric Models and SUVs Drive European Growth

(IN BRIEF) Volkswagen delivered around 4.73 million vehicles worldwide last year, largely matching prior-year volumes despite challenging global market conditions. Growth in Europe and South America helped offset declines in China and North America. Demand for all-electric vehicles remained stable, with nearly 382,000 electric models delivered and strong growth recorded in Germany and across Europe, driven in particular by the ID.7. SUVs continued to dominate the sales mix, led by the T-Roc in Europe. Looking ahead, Volkswagen plans a major electric product offensive from 2026, alongside celebrating 50 years of the iconic GTI with the launch of the Golf GTI EDITION 50.

(PRESS RELEASE) WOLFSBURG, 13-Jan-2026 — /EuropaWire/ — Volkswagen delivered approximately 4.73 million vehicles worldwide in the past year, keeping global deliveries broadly in line with the previous year despite a difficult market environment. While overall volumes declined slightly by 1.4 percent, the brand recorded encouraging momentum in key regions, particularly Europe and South America. Deliveries in Europe rose by 5.1 percent, while South America saw strong growth of 18.5 percent. By contrast, challenging conditions persisted in China, where deliveries fell by 8.4 percent, and in North America, where US tariffs contributed to an 8.2 percent decline.

Demand for all-electric vehicles remained resilient. In 2025, Volkswagen delivered around 382,000 battery-electric vehicles worldwide, a marginal decrease of 0.2 percent compared with the prior year. Fully electric models accounted for 8.1 percent of total brand deliveries. Volkswagen continues to lead the European market across all drive types, maintaining its top position in both conventional and electric vehicles. In its home market of Germany, the brand achieved a total market share of 19.6 percent, according to the German Federal Motor Transport Authority, representing a year-on-year increase of 0.5 percentage points.

Europe once again proved to be a key growth driver for Volkswagen’s electric portfolio. Deliveries of all-electric models rose sharply in Germany, reaching 93,800 units, an increase of 60.7 percent. Across Europe as a whole, deliveries climbed to approximately 247,900 vehicles, up 49.1 percent year-on-year. Central to this performance was the ID.7, which emerged as the best-selling model in the ID. family. Around 35,000 units were delivered in Germany alone, while European deliveries reached 76,600 units, reflecting triple-digit growth in both markets. The model’s availability as both a saloon and the ID.7 Tourer estate has broadened its appeal.

Volkswagen expects interest in its electric lineup to strengthen further as it launches a wide-ranging product offensive. From 2026 onwards, numerous new all-electric models are scheduled for market introduction, including the ID. Polo with a targeted entry price of around €25,000 and the production version of the compact ID. Cross SUV. In China alone, more than ten new electric models are planned for launch, underlining the brand’s long-term commitment to the market despite current headwinds.

SUVs continued to play a dominant role in Volkswagen’s overall sales mix. In 2025, they accounted for just over half of all brand deliveries worldwide. The trend was particularly pronounced in the United States, where SUVs represented more than 78 percent of Volkswagen vehicles sold. In Europe, the T-Roc remained the brand’s best-selling SUV, with nearly 202,000 units delivered following the launch of its second generation. The Tayron, introduced in spring 2025, also contributed positively, achieving global deliveries of more than 60,000 units within a short timeframe.

Alongside its volume and electric growth strategy, Volkswagen is marking a major brand milestone in 2026 with the 50th anniversary of the GTI. The celebration is being led by the launch of the Golf GTI EDITION 50, the most powerful production GTI ever built, which is now entering markets and reinforces the brand’s performance heritage.
