(PRESS RELEASE) HEIDENHEIM/SETÚBAL, 13-Aug-2024 — /EuropaWire/ — Voith has achieved a significant milestone in the paper industry by successfully implementing its Infinity S family of seamed felts on Navigator Paper Setúbal’s PM 1 and PM 3 machines. This transition marks a crucial step in replacing traditional endless felts with seamed felts across all press positions, resulting from a three-year collaboration between Voith and Navigator Paper Setúbal teams.

The adoption of seamed felts offers several advantages, including faster felt changes, reduced workforce requirements, and the elimination of the need to cantilever the press section. This innovation has significantly improved safety and working conditions by reducing the risks associated with installing endless felts, which previously required extensive disassembly of the press section.

Orlando Ferreira, Superintendent of PM 1 & PM 3 at Navigator Paper Setúbal, praised the collaboration, stating, “This milestone was achieved through outstanding cooperation between Voith and Navigator Paper Setúbal. The installation of seamed felts has improved safety and efficiency, marking a significant step forward for our operations.”

Voith’s commitment to innovation and customer-focused solutions played a key role in this project. Ricardo Silva, Sales & Service Engineer at Voith Paper, highlighted the importance of meeting seam-marking standards, which was a critical challenge in this transition. “With dedication and persistence from both the Setúbal and Voith teams, we have made this important step forward. We are very proud of this result and the benefits they deliver,” Silva said.

The success of this project underscores Voith’s position as a leader in the development and implementation of seamed felt technology, particularly in marking-sensitive grades and complex press configurations. Laslo Monte, Sales Director South-West EMEA at Voith Paper, added, “With our seamed felt design, we are the first supplier to successfully run seamed felts on both PM 1 and PM 3 in Setúbal.”

Ferreira further emphasized the significance of this achievement, noting Voith’s continuous support and ability to adapt to the specific needs of Navigator Paper Setúbal. “This project is another example of our continuous desire to innovate, our enormous capacity for adaptation, and our strong concern for people and their safety,” Ferreira concluded.
