(IN BRIEF) VINCI Airports has unveiled the first phase of its £100 million expansion at Belfast International Airport, featuring a new terminal extension, advanced security systems, and a 1,600 sqm Duty-Free store. This investment aims to improve passenger experience, increase airport capacity, and contribute to Northern Ireland’s economic growth.

(PRESS RELEASE) PARIS, 7-May-2025 — /EuropaWire/ — As part of its ongoing commitment to enhancing passenger experience and supporting regional growth, VINCI Airports has officially inaugurated the first phase of a major £100 million, five-year investment programme at Belfast International Airport. The new terminal extension, which includes advanced security measures and a transformative Duty-Free experience, highlights our dedication to modernising Northern Ireland’s busiest airport and improving its infrastructure to accommodate future growth.

In collaboration with Lagardère Travel Retail, we’ve introduced a state-of-the-art, 1,600 sqm Duty-Free store that blends global and local brands, offering a comprehensive shopping experience for passengers. The first phase of the investment also includes the completion of a cutting-edge security hall equipped with Next Generation Security Equipment. This new system allows passengers to pass through security without the need to remove liquids or electronics from their hand luggage, streamlining the security process and providing a more relaxed experience.

At the formal launch event, attended by Northern Ireland’s First Minister Michelle O’Neill and Deputy First Minister Emma Little-Pengelly, VINCI Airports’ CEO Pierre Anjolras and Nicolas Notebaert, CEO of Concessions and President of VINCI Airports, shared the vision behind this transformative project. This first phase represents a key milestone, with further investments scheduled over the next three years to ensure Belfast International continues to play a pivotal role in the region’s aviation, tourism, and economic development.

“We are delighted to deliver the first phase of our investment plan, marking a significant step in modernising Belfast International Airport,” said Nicolas Notebaert. “This is just the beginning of our efforts to strengthen connectivity, enhance sustainability, and provide the best possible experience for passengers. The improvements made today will ensure that the airport remains a vital hub for Northern Ireland’s economy and its growing tourism sector.”

The £25 million first phase of the investment is part of a comprehensive strategy to expand and upgrade Belfast International Airport. With the introduction of new technologies and improved facilities, the airport is on track to support even higher passenger numbers in the coming years, positioning it for continued success.
