University of Warwick Students’ Union Reveals 2024 Top-Rated Landlords

The initiative, launched in 2021, helps students share their renting experiences to guide future tenants. Gurj Johal won Landlord of the Year, praised for his friendly and responsive service. Other winners included Gerry Concannon for Most Caring Landlord and Happy Rooms as Best Managing Agents.

(PRESS RELEASE) COVENTRY, 29-Jun-2024 — /EuropaWire/ — The University of Warwick Students’ Union has announced the winners of the annual Rate Your Landlord Awards, celebrating the best landlords in the area as rated by their student tenants. These awards aim to highlight landlords who provide exceptional service and maintain high standards of student accommodation.

Navigating off-campus housing can be challenging for students, often faced with tight budgets and limited information about potential landlords. To address these issues, the University of Warwick Students’ Union launched the ‘Rate Your Landlord’ website in September 2021. This platform, akin to TripAdvisor for student housing, allows students to share their renting experiences and help future students make informed housing choices.

Enaya Nihal, Vice-President Welfare and Campaigns at the Students’ Union, emphasized the importance of good landlords, saying, “Great landlords make a huge difference to students’ quality of life and their connection with the communities where they live. We want everyone to feel part of the local area and not have to worry about poor quality housing, so they can make the most of their time at the University of Warwick.”

The prestigious Landlord of the Year 2024 award was won by Gurj Johal, who received glowing reviews from his tenants, such as, “He’s been really friendly and helpful throughout the year and has fixed all problems when they have arisen,” and “Quick to reply, very friendly and very helpful. Anytime we had any sort of problems he had them sorted within hours.”
