UniCredit S.p.A. moves to its new headquarters – UniCredit Tower, the tallest building in Italy

The newly constructed Headquarters, UniCredit Tower, is a block of three skyscrapers that feature the tallest building in Italy, Tower A, which, stands at 231 metres.

The complex was designed by Argentinian architect Cesar Pelli and constructed by Hines Italia SGR. By the middle of October, UniCredit will have completed its move of approximately 4,000 staff into the Tower, reducing its number of offices in Milan from 26 to 5. This move represents a reduction of 55,000 square meters in office space and an annual savings of approximately €25 million on property costs.

UniCredit Tower has received much praise for its design. Germany’s Emporis Building Data Company named it one of the ten most beautiful skycrapers in the world, citing its distinctive spire and use of ultra-modern materials to make an eco-sustainable complex. The Tower was also a finalist Best Office and Business Development at the 2013 Mipim Awards – the only Italian project selected for the contest.

UniCredit Tower has received an LEED Gold certification from the US Green Building Council^, an organization that promotes sustainability in more than 100 countries, thanks to construction techniques that result in:

• 22.5% energy savings
• 37.3% reduction in the use of potable water in the buildings
• 100% reuse of rain water
• 93% recycling of building site waste
• 20.5% recycled material used in construction
• 41% construction materials of local origin

Space at the base of UniCredit Tower will be used for retail shopping and restaurants as well as a new UniCredit branch that will showcase the bank’s new technology, layout and transparency commercial concepts.

This new Headquarters is part of UniCredit’s “City Plans,” a project to reorganize all of the Group’s main European offices, moving 25,000 staff members in Milan, Rome, Munich, Vienna, Warsaw, Hamburg, Bucharest, Prague, Moscow, Zagreb, Bologna, Turin and Verona.

In Milan, buildings that will remain part of UniCredit are:

• The Piazza Cordusio office, the historic former head office re-designated as a business area
• Offices on Via Livio Cambi, to serve as Headquarters of UniCredit Business Integrated Solutions
• The training center in Cologno Monzese
• The office in Piazza Durante, Headquarters of Fineco.
