Swedish Defence Administration Selects Saab Trackfire for Future Amphibious Capabilities

(IN BRIEF) Saab has received an order worth approximately SEK 1.5 billion from the Swedish Defence Materiel Administration for its Trackfire Remote Weapon Station, with deliveries planned between 2026 and 2028. The systems will support both the Swedish Army and the Amphibious Battalion 2030 programme, which aims to modernise Sweden’s amphibious forces. The order includes the Trackfire ARES variant, featuring enhanced counter-drone capabilities, highlighting Saab’s role in strengthening modern, multi-domain defence operations.

(PRESS RELEASE) STOCKHOLM, 9-Jan-2026 — /EuropaWire/ — Saab has secured a significant contract from the Swedish Defence Materiel Administration (FMV) for the delivery of its Trackfire Remote Weapon Station (RWS). The order, valued at approximately SEK 1.5 billion, was recorded in the fourth quarter of 2025, with deliveries scheduled to take place between 2026 and 2028.

The Trackfire RWS systems will be deployed by the Swedish Army and as part of the Amphibious Battalion 2030 programme, a long-term initiative aimed at shaping the future capabilities of the Swedish Armed Forces’ amphibious units. The programme focuses on enhancing mobility, protection, and operational effectiveness across complex maritime and coastal environments.

Carl-Johan Bergholm, Head of Saab’s Surveillance business area, said the selection of Trackfire underscores Saab’s role in delivering advanced defence solutions tailored to modern operational requirements. He noted that the system’s precision, flexibility, and adaptability make it a key component in strengthening both land and amphibious force capabilities.

Trackfire RWS is a fully stabilised, remotely operated dual-weapon station designed to deliver high accuracy while on the move. The system can be mounted on naval vessels, ground vehicles, or fixed defence installations, providing versatile protection across multiple operational domains. Its stabilisation technology enables precise engagement even in challenging conditions and at speed.

The FMV order includes the latest Trackfire ARES (Aerial Response) variant, which is equipped with a 30×113 mm M230LF Bushmaster chain gun as its primary weapon. This configuration provides effective counter-unmanned aerial system (C-UAS) capability, addressing the growing threat posed by drones in modern combat environments. The addition of Trackfire ARES strengthens air defence at short range while maintaining flexibility for surface engagements.

With this order, Saab continues to expand its contribution to Sweden’s defence modernisation efforts, supporting the development of future-ready forces with advanced, reliable, and adaptable weapon systems.
