(PRESS RELEASE) STOCKHOLM, 5-Nov-2024 — /EuropaWire/ — The F-39E Gripen fighter jet, manufactured by Saab, is a centerpiece at CRUZEX 2024, Latin America’s largest multinational air exercise, organized by the Brazilian Air Force (FAB). Taking place from November 3-15 at Natal Air Base in Rio Grande do Norte, Brazil, CRUZEX 2024 hosts over 2,000 military personnel and more than 100 combat aircraft from Brazil and 15 other countries across Latin America, Africa, Europe, and the United States.

Marking its debut in complex multinational military scenarios, the F-39E Gripen will perform in Composite Air Operations (COMAO), where multiple aircraft collaborate to challenge enemy defenses. Saab CEO Micael Johansson expressed pride in the Gripen’s debut, hosted by the Brazilian Air Force, a key partner and customer.

Lieutenant Colonel Ramon Lincoln Santos Fórneas, commander of the 1st Air Defence Group, explained that the Gripen will play dual roles at CRUZEX, executing Offensive and Defensive Counterair operations to protect allied forces and defend against attacks. Since its induction in December 2022, the Gripen has brought advanced technology to the Brazilian Air Force, including AESA radar and IRST sensors, reinforcing Brazil’s air defense capabilities.
