Saab enhances global innovation leadership with creation of Group Strategy and Technology led by Marcus Wandt

(IN BRIEF) Saab has appointed Marcus Wandt as Senior Vice President and Head of its new Group Strategy and Technology function, effective 1 November 2025. The new unit will focus on group-level strategy, technology development, mergers and acquisitions, and strategic partnerships. Wandt, currently Saab’s Chief Innovation Officer, is a former Swedish Air Force fighter pilot, ex-Chief Test Pilot at Saab, and ESA astronaut who traveled to the International Space Station in 2024. Saab CEO Micael Johansson highlighted Wandt’s strong leadership and innovation expertise as key to advancing Saab’s technological edge and long-term strategy.

The newly established group function is designed to strengthen Saab’s strategic direction and technological leadership by focusing on corporate strategy, advanced technology, mergers and acquisitions, partnerships, and ventures.

Currently serving as Chief Innovation Officer at Saab, Marcus Wandt brings a distinguished background in aerospace and innovation to his new role. A former Swedish Air Force fighter pilot and Chief Test Pilot at Saab, he also made history in 2024 as one of the European Space Agency (ESA) astronauts who journeyed to the International Space Station (ISS).

By leading the Group Strategy and Technology division, Wandt will play a central role in aligning Saab’s long-term strategic priorities with its commitment to innovation, collaboration, and sustainable growth. His appointment reflects Saab’s determination to remain at the forefront of global defense and security technology during a period of rapid transformation in the industry.
