Roland Welzbacher Appointed to Continental AG Executive Board as CFO

(IN BRIEF) Roland Welzbacher has been appointed to the Executive Board of Continental AG, effective August 1, 2025. He will take over as CFO from Olaf Schick, following a transition period that concludes on October 1, 2025. Welzbacher, who has been with Continental for 22 years, currently manages Finance and Controlling in the Tires group sector. Schick will step down from his position as CFO after completing his role in the spin-off of the Automotive group sector and will join Mercedes-Benz Group AG’s board. Welzbacher’s appointment comes as Continental shifts its focus to the tire business.

(PRESS RELEASE) HANOVER, 25-Apr-2025 — /EuropaWire/ — Continental AG has announced the appointment of Roland Welzbacher (55) to its Executive Board, effective August 1, 2025. Welzbacher will succeed Olaf Schick, who has requested the early termination of his contract in December 2024. Following a transition period, Welzbacher will assume the role of Chief Financial Officer (CFO) on October 1, 2025. The specific responsibilities related to Schick’s current roles in Finance, Integrity, and Law will be clarified at a later date.

Since 2023, Welzbacher has led Finance and Controlling in the Tires group sector, a position he will continue to hold. Once the ContiTech group sector operates independently, Welzbacher will remain on the Executive Board of Continental AG, which will then focus on the tire business.

Olaf Schick, who will step down from his role as CFO on September 30, 2025, will take up a new role as a board member at Mercedes-Benz Group AG, effective October 1, 2025.

Chairman of Continental’s Supervisory Board, Wolfgang Reitzle, praised Welzbacher’s long tenure at the company, stating, “Roland is a highly skilled and experienced manager with strong ties to the company. His appointment as CFO comes at a pivotal time, with the planned independence of the ContiTech sector and Continental’s future focus on tires.”

Roland Welzbacher, who has been with Continental for 22 years, previously served as CEO of Semperit Reifen GmbH and held key positions in Continental’s tire-replacement business, including overseeing operations for OEMs and international fleets, as well as the Southern European market. Before joining Continental, he worked as a mergers and acquisitions consultant at Hypo Consult GmbH in Munich.
