(PRESS RELEASE) DÜSSELDORF, 25-Oct-2024 — /EuropaWire/ — Rheinmetall has supplied Ukraine with 20 more Marder 1A3 Infantry Fighting Vehicles (IFVs) as part of an ongoing initiative to bolster Ukraine’s defense capabilities in the face of the ongoing conflict. This latest delivery, completed at the end of September 2024, was made possible through funding from the German government and is valued in the mid-double-digit million-euro range.

This recent shipment brings the total number of combat vehicles Rheinmetall has provided to Ukraine, both directly and through ring exchange programs, to around 200. Among these are numerous Marder 1A3 IFVs, along with Leopard main battle tanks and additional Marders delivered as part of similar agreements.

The Marder 1A3 IFVs supplied to Ukraine are equipped with advanced laser rangefinders, enhancing their targeting precision and operational effectiveness. Rheinmetall began refurbishing these units in early 2022, initially covering the costs itself, with upgrades and repairs conducted at its facilities in Unterlüß and Kassel to ensure the vehicles’ immediate readiness for deployment.

The Marder is a proven, globally recognized combat vehicle initially developed for the German Bundeswehr. While the Marder remains in service, it is being gradually replaced by the Puma IFV within the German Army. Nonetheless, the vehicle’s reliable design and modernized features continue to make it an essential asset for military operations.
