PNE Group Expands Global Reach with First Wind Farm Outside Germany in France

(IN BRIEF) The PNE Group has launched its first wind farm outside Germany, the Saint-Aubin-du-Plain wind farm in France, which entered trial operation in late 2024 and is set to begin its 20-year Contract for Difference on February 1, 2025. Alongside this, the Herbsleben-Dachwig wind farm in Thuringia, Germany, has also been commissioned. Together, these projects increase PNE’s total operating wind power capacity to 434.3 MW. Both farms contribute to PNE’s growth as an Independent Power Producer (IPP), with the Saint-Aubin-du-Plain project marking a significant expansion into international markets.

(PRESS RELEASE) CUXHAVEN, 31-Jan-2025 — /EuropaWire/ — The PNE Group has successfully launched its first wind farm outside Germany, marking a significant milestone in its expansion as an Independent Power Producer (IPP). Located in the Nouvelle-Aquitaine region of western France, the Saint-Aubin-du-Plain wind farm began trial operations at the close of 2024 and entered the transition phase in mid-January. On February 1, 2025, the wind farm will officially join the 20-year Contract for Difference (CFD), boosting PNE’s global portfolio. This, alongside the recently commissioned Herbsleben-Dachwig wind farm in Thuringia, Germany, brings PNE’s total operating wind power capacity to 434.3 MW.

The Saint-Aubin-du-Plain project was developed by WKN France, a subsidiary of PNE AG, and features three Nordex N131 turbines, each capable of producing 3.6 MW, contributing green electricity to the grid. Meanwhile, the Herbsleben-Dachwig wind farm, located in Thuringia, is home to two Nordex N149 turbines, each with a capacity of 5.7 MW. The commissioning of both projects adds a combined 22.2 MW to PNE’s own operational generation capacity.

This marks the continuation of PNE’s strategic growth, reinforcing its position as a major IPP. Heiko Wuttke, CEO of PNE AG, commented on the achievement, saying, “The commissioning of these wind farms represents the first successes of 2025, following a strong performance in 2024. Expanding our own operational portfolio is a key part of our growth strategy.” Sven Dippel, Executive Vice President of Energy Production/IPP at PNE AG, added, “With the Saint-Aubin-du-Plain wind farm, we have taken an important step in expanding our IPP portfolio outside Germany, further solidifying our position in core markets.”
