(PRESS RELEASE) OSLO, 12-May-2025 — /EuropaWire/ — Yara International ASA, a global firm specializing in agricultural products and environmental protection agents and a leading global ammonia player, PepsiCo have entered into a long-term partnership to enhance crop nutrition programs in Latin America, aiming to decarbonize the food value chain. This collaboration builds on a similar agreement signed last year between the two companies in Europe, where Yara provides PepsiCo’s farmers with top-tier crop nutrition products, expert advice, and precision farming digital tools. The new partnership will initially focus on supporting potato farmers in Mexico, Colombia, Chile, and Argentina.

Pedro Parenti, Senior Vice President of Yara Latin America, highlighted the importance of the partnership, stating, “This agreement underscores the value of our solutions in reducing the carbon footprint of agriculture and food production. With PepsiCo as a key ally, we can create a more sustainable future for both the environment and future generations.”

As part of the agreement, Yara will supply PepsiCo with a range of fertilizers, including its innovative Yara Climate Choice™ products, which are lower-carbon options produced from renewable ammonia or through carbon capture and storage (CCS). The product mix will also include Yara’s premium nitrate-based mineral fertilizers, made using Yara’s proprietary catalyst technology, significantly reducing the carbon footprint. These fertilizers can reduce the carbon footprint of potato cultivation by 20% to 40%, depending on the variant.

Chrystel Monthean, EVP of Yara Americas, emphasized the significance of the collaboration, saying, “This partnership is crucial to our mission of growing a nature-positive food future. By improving fertilizer efficiency and promoting regenerative farming practices, we are cutting emissions and making agriculture more sustainable.”

The partnership aligns with Yara’s commitment to decarbonizing food production and supporting farmers as they transition to more regenerative agricultural models. Yara and PepsiCo’s shared ambition for a more sustainable food system also extends to assisting farmers with transition costs, ensuring a smoother shift toward regenerative practices.

Paula Santilli, CEO of PepsiCo Latin America, commented, “This partnership is a significant step forward in our pep+ (PepsiCo Positive) agenda. Positive Agriculture, which supports regenerative farming practices and sustainable sourcing, is crucial in meeting the growing global food demand while protecting natural resources and enhancing human well-being.”
