Nordex Secures Landmark Nordic Orders with OX2 to Propel Finland’s Wind Energy Expansion

(IN BRIEF) Swedish renewable energy company OX2 placed two significant orders with the Nordex Group for 70 N175/6.X wind turbines, marking the first use of this new turbine model in the Nordic region. The orders, which come with a 35-year premium maintenance and service contract, will support two projects in Finland—Honkakangas in Central Ostrobothnia (16 turbines) and Rajamäenkylä in South Ostrobothnia (54 turbines)—totaling an approximate capacity of 472 MW. These turbines will be installed on 162-meter-high tubular steel towers, designed for the harsh Nordic climate, and will feature the Nordex Advanced Anti-Icing System on the rotor blades for the Honkakangas project to ensure high performance under icing conditions. Installation is scheduled to occur in 2026 and 2027, with the wind farms becoming operational in 2027 and 2028. José Luis Blanco, CEO of Nordex Group, emphasized that the contracts underline the company’s extensive expertise in cold-climate turbine development and its reliable anti-icing technology, which are crucial for advancing Finland’s clean and sustainable energy future.

(PRESS RELEASE) HAMBURG, 1-Apr-2025 — /EuropaWire/ — At the end of March, Swedish renewable energy firm OX2 finalized two orders with the Nordex Group for a total of 70 N175/6.X wind turbines to be installed in Finland. These orders, which also include a premium 35-year maintenance and service contract, mark the first investment in the Nordic region using the N175/6.X model—the newest addition to the Delta4000 series.

The wind turbines, collectively offering an approximate capacity of 472 MW, will be deployed across two projects: the Honkakangas project in Central Ostrobothnia, which will consist of 16 turbines, and the Rajamäenkylä project in South Ostrobothnia, featuring 54 turbines. Each turbine will be mounted on a 162-meter-high tubular steel tower and built to withstand cold climate conditions, as standard in the Nordic countries.

Notably, the turbines for the Honkakangas project will include the Nordex Advanced Anti-Icing System on their rotor blades, ensuring optimal performance even under moderate to heavy icing conditions. Delivery and installation are planned for 2026 and 2027, with the wind farms set to be commissioned in 2027 and 2028. José Luis Blanco, CEO of the Nordex Group, commented, “We are very pleased to have been awarded the contracts to supply our latest and most powerful turbine type for these large projects – now for the first time also in the Nordics.

This is a testament to our many years of experience in developing turbines for cold climates and now with 15 years of experience with our very competitive and reliable anti-icing system. It is relevant for us to be part of shaping Finland’s clean and sustainable future by providing this cutting-edge technology to OX2.”
