New Leica DS4000 Locator Unveils Hidden Pipes and Cables Up to 60% Deeper

(IN BRIEF) Hexagon’s Leica Geosystems division has launched the Leica DS4000, a utility locator that reaches up to 60% deeper than traditional systems thanks to IDS GeoRadar’s Equalised Scrambling Technology. The system enhances subsurface imaging—spotting small-diameter utilities like fibre-optic lines—and allows a lone operator to work safely and efficiently across varied terrain. Its lightweight, single-user cart features quick-change wheels and an auto-adjusting antenna to navigate obstacles without interruption. The DS4000 aims to help surveyors and construction teams reduce excavation risks, comply with tighter regulations, and maintain project timelines.

(PRESS RELEASE) HEERBRUGG, 16-Jun-2025 — /EuropaWire/ — Leica Geosystems, a division of Hexagon, has introduced the Leica DS4000, a next-generation utility detection system capable of locating underground assets up to 60% deeper than conventional technology. Leveraging IDS GeoRadar’s patented Equalised Scrambling Technology (EsT), the DS4000 delivers clearer imaging at both shallow and extended depths, and even uncovers small-diameter objects—such as fibre-optic cables—that previously went unnoticed.

As urban infrastructure becomes increasingly crowded beneath the surface, accurate subsurface mapping is vital to mitigate risks before excavation. The DS4000 equips survey and construction teams with high-fidelity utility data so they can plan work with greater confidence, comply with stricter safety regulations, and keep projects on schedule.

Matthias Twardzik, Director of Hexagon Detection in the Geosystems division, said:

“In today’s complex and highly regulated environments, precise utility detection is essential. The DS4000 empowers a single operator to gather reliable data in challenging settings, reducing the likelihood of costly delays or damages during digging.”

Designed for portability and ease of use, the lightweight DS4000 cart can be handled by one person and quickly reconfigured for both smooth surfaces and rough terrain by swapping wheels in seconds. Its antenna is mounted on an automatic height-adjustment mechanism that lowers for scanning and raises to navigate obstacles, protecting the equipment and ensuring uninterrupted operation.
