New Gas Consortium Begins Production at Quiluma to Strengthen Angola LNG Supply and Domestic Energy Capacity

(IN BRIEF) Eni has announced the start of gas production from the Quiluma field in Angola, marking a major milestone for the New Gas Consortium and the country’s energy sector. With initial output of 150 MMSCF per day set to increase to 330 MMSCF per day خلال 2026, the project is expected to significantly boost both LNG exports and domestic gas supply. The gas will be processed at the Soyo treatment plant and supplied to the Angola LNG facility. As Angola’s first non-associated gas development, the project supports diversification of the energy mix and enhances long-term energy security. Operated by Azule Energy, a joint venture between bp and Eni, the initiative highlights continued investment in the country’s energy infrastructure and transition efforts.

(PRESS RELEASE) ROME, 17-Mar-2026 — /EuropaWire/ — Eni has marked a significant step forward in Angola’s energy development with the first gas delivery from the Quiluma field, operated under the New Gas Consortium (NGC). The milestone represents the launch of production from one of the country’s key non-associated gas projects, supporting both export capacity and domestic energy supply.

Initial production from the Quiluma field is set at approximately 150 million standard cubic feet per day, with output expected to increase to around 330 million standard cubic feet per day خلال 2026 as operations ramp up. The extracted gas will be processed at the NGC treatment facility in Soyo, which began operations in November 2025, before being directed to the Angola LNG plant for both international export and use within the domestic market.

The New Gas Consortium is composed of Azule Energy as operator with a 37.4% stake, alongside CABGOC holding 31%, Sonangol E&P with 19.8%, and TotalEnergies with 11.8%. Prior to the formation of Azule Energy, the consortium’s activities were managed by Eni, which continues to play a central role through its partnership structure.

The project is particularly notable as it focuses on developing Angola’s first non-associated gas reserves, helping to diversify the country’s energy mix. By increasing LNG output and enhancing the availability of gas for local consumption, the initiative supports both economic development and energy security.

Azule Energy, a joint venture between bp and Eni, currently produces more than 230,000 barrels of oil equivalent per day and remains a key player in advancing Angola’s energy sector. The company continues to contribute to the country’s transition strategy by expanding gas production and strengthening infrastructure that supports both exports and domestic energy needs.
