Maxiforja Unveils 6,500‑Ton KERS‑Equipped Forging Press to Boost Capacity and Sustainability

(IN BRIEF) Maxiforja has expanded its forging capabilities by installing a 6,500‑ton GLK 6500 press from ANDRITZ Schuler at its Canoas facility. This world‑record press features an energy‑saving Kinetic Energy Recovering System (KERS), which slashes power requirements by up to 40 percent compared to comparable machines. Built by ANDRITZ Farina in Italy and assembled by Prensas Schuler in Brazil, the line also uses a Scotch Yoke drive for a compact design and enhanced accuracy. The addition complements Maxiforja’s existing 800‑ to 4,000‑ton presses and underscores the company’s commitment to sustainable, high‑quality production of heavy‑duty truck and agricultural components.

(PRESS RELEASE) GRAZ, 30-Jul-2025 — /EuropaWire/ — Founded in 1963 and headquartered in Canoas, Brazil, Maxiforja has long supplied heavy‑truck and agricultural equipment manufacturers with precision forged components. To scale up its capacity for producing knuckles weighing up to 40 kg, the company has just commissioned a landmark 6,500‑ton forging press from ANDRITZ Schuler—now officially in operation.

“This machine is the world’s largest forging press equipped with a Kinetic Energy Recovering System,” explains Nicolas Drevon, Director of Global Forging at ANDRITZ Schuler. By harnessing KERS technology, Maxiforja will cut its power consumption by as much as 40 percent versus traditional presses of this scale, directly supporting the company’s sustainability ambitions. Alongside reduced energy demand, the new line delivers superior precision and throughput, thanks to state‑of‑the‑art engineering.

Designed by ANDRITZ Farina in Italy and assembled locally at Prensas Schuler in Brazil, the GLK 6500 press also incorporates a Scotch Yoke mechanism integrated into the slide for a more compact footprint and tighter component tolerances. While Maxiforja’s existing fleet includes presses from 800 to 4,000 tons, this marks its first venture with ANDRITZ Schuler technology—and sets a new benchmark for forging capacity in Latin America.
