(PRESS RELEASE) SINGAPORE, 18-Mar-2026 — /EuropaWire/ — A.P. Moller – Maersk has inaugurated a new 1.1 million square foot, fully automated distribution facility in Singapore, known as World Gateway II. The launch represents a major expansion of the company’s contract logistics and e-commerce operations across the Asia Pacific region, reinforcing its integrated logistics capabilities.

Developed with the support of the Singapore government, the facility is positioned to meet rising demand from companies that use Singapore as a central hub for regional and global distribution. It is designed to handle both business-to-business and business-to-consumer fulfilment, serving industries such as lifestyle, fast-moving consumer goods, retail, wellness, and technology.

Strategically located near key transport infrastructure, including Tuas Port and Changi Airport, the site enables efficient international cargo distribution. It is also situated close to Maersk’s existing World Gateway facility, further strengthening operational synergies within its regional network.

Maersk CEO Vincent Clerc highlighted the importance of Singapore within the company’s global logistics network, noting that the new facility reflects confidence in Asia’s continued growth driven by strong exports and increasing consumer demand. The development supports Maersk’s ambition to provide customers with greater resilience and flexibility through its expanding integrated logistics solutions.

The World Gateway II facility incorporates advanced automation technologies to improve efficiency and scalability. These include a Multi-Shuttle System, Automated Storage and Retrieval System, and Autonomous Case-handling Robots, all of which contribute to faster order processing, reduced lead times, and enhanced operational accuracy by minimizing manual handling.

Chang Kee Seng, Head of Maersk Contract Logistics Asia Pacific, described the expansion as a significant step in strengthening the company’s regional presence. He emphasized that the combination of scale and automation will open new opportunities, particularly in high-value sectors such as luxury fashion, while maintaining consistent performance at scale.

Maersk has invested more than S$200 million in the development of the facility, which is currently around 70 percent occupied. Once fully operational, it is expected to generate approximately 500 jobs, many of which will leverage advanced digital and automation technologies.

The opening of World Gateway II further enhances Singapore’s standing as a leading logistics hub in Asia Pacific. Png Cheong Boon, Chairman of the Singapore Economic Development Board, noted that the investment will support job creation and strengthen the country’s logistics capabilities, particularly in digitalisation and automation. Ang Wee Keong, Chief Executive of the Maritime and Port Authority of Singapore, added that the facility will enable businesses to optimise supply chains by co-locating logistics, manufacturing, and distribution activities, improving efficiency and speed to market.

The facility offers a range of advanced features designed to support modern logistics operations, including high storage density enabled by 11-metre clear height floors, extensive loading bays, rooftop container parking, and proximity to major ports and airports. It also operates as a customs-bonded, zero-GST warehouse, allowing deferred tax on non-dutiable goods until they enter the market.

Additional capabilities include an end-to-end transport management system with real-time tracking, integrated warehouse management systems that connect with customer platforms, and value-added services such as labelling, bundling, and repacking. Sustainability is also a key focus, with the site achieving LEED Platinum and Green Mark Platinum certifications through the use of solar panels, energy-efficient systems, and smart lighting solutions. The facility also meets high security standards, including Transported Asset Protection Association Class A certification.
