Lund University Welcomes Acclaimed Transport Scholar for Collaborative Research Initiative

(PRESS RELEASE) GOTHENBURG, 31-Aug-2024— /EuropaWire/ — Lund University is set to embark on an exciting research collaboration with Professor Johan Woxenius, a distinguished scholar in Maritime Transport Management and Logistics from the University of Gothenburg. Professor Woxenius has been honored with the prestigious Håkan Frisinger Prize for Transportation Research, awarded by the Volvo Research and Educational Foundations (VREF). This accolade includes a significant guest research program at Lund University.

The Håkan Frisinger Prize, awarded annually to a leading transport researcher in the Nordic region, acknowledges Professor Woxenius for his pioneering interdisciplinary work that has brought tangible societal benefits, particularly in enhancing the connectivity between container ports and their surrounding regions through rail transport.

The collaboration between Professor Woxenius and Lund University will focus on addressing critical challenges in the field of freight transport, with a special emphasis on the interaction between urban and rural areas. The program will be hosted by the Faculty of Engineering’s research group for packaging logistics, under the leadership of Professor Henrik Pålsson.

The Håkan Frisinger Prize, established in honor of the former Volvo CEO and Chairman, includes a 300,000 SEK individual award for Professor Woxenius and a 500,000 SEK grant for Lund University to support the guest research program. The initiative will combine cutting-edge research with educational activities, focusing on key areas such as urban transport, long-distance transport, and supply chain resilience.
