(PRESS RELEASE) HELSINKI, 26-Jun-2025 — /EuropaWire/ — Lumene Group, Finland’s trailblazing circular-beauty and cosmetics manufacturer, has partnered with Stora Enso to integrate an advanced packaging automation system into its production line. Facing the challenge of manually boxing 40 distinct tube formats—ranging from gels and lotions to hair and hand care—Lumene sought a solution that balanced sustainability, sturdiness, and consumer-friendly design.

Stora Enso answered with a tailor-made wraparound packaging machine (the Österbergs W50), engineered to fold and secure corrugated board blanks around grouped products. Built on over four decades of expertise and more than 1,000 installations, this user-focused system not only meets Lumene’s climate goals—ensuring recyclable, transit-resilient, and easily opened packaging—but also delivers substantial operational gains. Production predictability has risen, packaging variability has shrunk, and staff are now freed from repetitive boxing tasks.

Jari Tiusanen, Lumene’s Production Development Director, explains, “Our priority wasn’t speed alone but removing the manual labor bottleneck. Now, with packaging that’s both sustainable and perfectly suited for our tubes, we’ve achieved smoother workflows and cost savings without compromising on quality.”

Petri Aalto, Head of Packaging Automation Finland at Stora Enso, adds, “The W50 system’s flexibility lets clients—from food producers to consumer-goods brands—group-pack virtually any item at retail-ready speeds. We’re delighted to see it drive efficiency and sustainability at Lumene.”

Benefits of the collaboration:

  • Productivity improved
  • Production became more predictable, and variability decreased
  • Employees were given tasks more comfortable than manual packaging
  • Improved efficiency in the packaging process including logistics and retail
  • Desired cost savings and sustainability benefits
