(PRESS RELEASE) LONDON, 21-Oct-2025 — /EuropaWire/ — Lloyds Banking Group is redefining artificial intelligence (AI) adoption in the financial sector, successfully scaling deployment across its workforce and integrating AI-driven tools that are transforming productivity. Nearly 30,000 M365 Copilot licences have been issued, with an impressive 93% of employees actively using the platform — marking one of the largest and most effective AI rollouts in the industry.

According to recent internal findings, the Group’s employees are saving an average of 46 minutes per day by leveraging M365 Copilot to summarise documents, prepare for meetings, and streamline administrative processes. The tool is also helping staff feel more confident and better prepared for client interactions, while product teams are using it to generate test plans in minutes, freeing up time for innovation and strategic work.

Within the technology division, GitHub Copilot is driving transformation by improving the efficiency of software engineering teams. Nearly 5,000 engineers are now using the tool regularly, reporting accelerated delivery and reduced development time. “We converted 11,000 lines of code across 83 files in half the expected time. We’re committed to enabling engineering excellence by equipping our teams with tools like GitHub Copilot that empower them to do their best work, accelerate delivery, and drive innovation across the organisation,” said Vic Weigler, Chief Technology Officer at Lloyds Banking Group.

The Group’s investment in AI innovation forms part of its broader £4 billion technology and data transformation strategy announced in 2022. This long-term vision focuses on embedding AI safely and responsibly to enhance customer experience and operational efficiency.

Ranil Boteju, Chief Data and Analytics Officer at Lloyds Banking Group, highlighted the company’s responsible approach to AI deployment: “We quickly identified the transformative impact that AI could deliver across our organisation, and over the last few years have put in place the assurance frameworks and tools we need to deploy AI safely and at scale. With these foundations in place, we’re reimagining how we operate by embedding AI across our business to drive smarter decisions, faster outcomes and better experiences.”

AI literacy and skills development are central to Lloyds Banking Group’s transformation journey. Tens of thousands of colleagues — from branch staff to senior leaders — are receiving training to enhance their understanding of AI. The company’s Data & AI Summer School hosted over 250 sessions across the UK, attracting a record 90,000 participants and covering topics such as generative AI, machine learning, and data strategy.

Since 2022, the Group has hired more than 4,000 data and technology professionals, with its AI Centre of Excellence now home to over 200 specialists, including data scientists, machine learning engineers, and AI ethicists. The Centre also plays a key role in nurturing future talent through one of the UK’s largest data science graduate programmes, welcoming over 80 new graduates in 2025.

Darren Hardman, CEO of Microsoft UK and Ireland, commended the Group’s leadership in digital transformation: “Lloyds Banking Group’s pioneering approach to AI showcases the tangible impact that tools like M365 Copilot and GitHub Copilot can deliver — whether that’s saving time throughout the day on routine tasks or halving the time it takes to manage legacy IT systems. We look forward to continuing our work together to ensure Lloyds Banking Group maintains its position as a truly world-class AI-powered digital bank.”

Microsoft defines active users of Copilot as those engaging with the tool across a rolling 4-week period. The 46 minutes saved per day is based on a sample of 1,000 Copilot users at Lloyds Banking Group.
