This collaboration is a step forward in the electrification of logistics, supporting the global push for sustainability.

(PRESS RELEASE) ARCOLE, 30-May-2025 — /EuropaWire/ — Lidl Italia, in collaboration with Daimler Truck Italia and LC3 Trasporti, has become the first company in Italy to introduce the fully electric Mercedes-Benz eActros 600 for long-haul transport. This groundbreaking move marks a major step towards sustainable logistics, with Lidl Italia committing to a greener future by integrating zero-emission technology into its supply chain.

The Mercedes-Benz eActros 600, designed for long-distance freight, is now operating in Italy, delivering goods to Lidl branches in Trentino-South Tyrol and the Lake Garda region during the summer. Equipped with a nitrogen-cooled semitrailer, the truck ensures a climate-friendly solution for transporting temperature-sensitive products. The truck’s sleek paint finish further highlights the partnership between the three organizations.

LC3 Trasporti, a leader in sustainable logistics, has made a significant commitment to this green transition by placing an order for 30 eActros 600 units. This marks the creation of one of Europe’s first fully electric long-haul fleets, contributing to the decarbonization of the transportation sector.

Luca Ros, Logistics Director at Lidl Italia, commented, “Sustainability in logistics is essential for our operations, and this partnership demonstrates our commitment to reducing our carbon footprint. We’re proud to be the first in Italy to use the new all-electric eActros 600, helping drive the transformation of transport into a greener future.”

Michele Ambrogi, Operations Director at LC3 Trasporti, added, “This is another milestone in our long-standing commitment to sustainable transport. Through years of innovation, we’ve reduced harmful emissions and integrated greener technologies. The eActros 600 marks the latest step in our journey towards full electrification and environmental sustainability.”

Maurizio Pompei, CEO of Daimler Truck Italia, said: “Sustainable mobility is the cornerstone of our strategy. Our collaboration with Lidl Italia and LC3 Trasporti exemplifies how electric trucks can revolutionize logistics, and we are excited to see the eActros 600 play a key role in this transformation.”

About the eActros 600

Mercedes-Benz Trucks celebrated the series launch of the eActros 600 at the end of November last year at the Mercedes-Benz plant in Wörth. Deliveries to customers began in December 2024. The electric flagship among Mercedes-Benz Trucks has already proven its capabilities several times under real-life conditions: In customer use and as part of the “eActros 600 European Testing Tour 2024”, a 15,000-kilometer all-electric development trip through a total of 22 countries and the “European Testing Tour Winter 2025” on around 6,500 kilometers through Northern Europe, each with a gross combination mass of 40 tons. In addition, the e-truck was voted “International Truck of the Year 2025”. The award is the most important prize in the industry and is presented annually by the International Truck of the Year (IToY) organization, consisting of 24 commercial vehicle journalists from Europe. The overall technological concept consisting of an electric drive axle and LFP cell technology was decisive for the award.

The high battery capacity of over 600 kilowatt hours – hence the model designation 600 – and a new, particularly efficient electric drive axle developed in-house enable the electric truck to achieve a range of 500 kilometers[1] without intermediate charging. This range is accomplished under very realistic and practical conditions with a gross combination mass of 40 tons, which can also be significantly exceeded depending on the driving style and the route. The eActros 600 will even be able to cover well over 1,000 kilometers per day. Intermediate charging during statutory driver breaks makes this possible, provided that charging options are available.

The eActros 600 has three battery packs, each with 207 kWh[2]. These offer an installed total capacity of 621 kWh. The batteries are based on lithium iron phosphate cell technology (LFP) and are characterized by a long service life. In contrast to other battery cell technologies, more than 95 percent of the installed capacity can also be used with LFP technology. This enables a higher range with the same amount of installed battery capacity. The vehicle is technically designed for a gross combination mass of up to 44 tons. With a standard semitrailer, the eActros 600 has a payload of around 22 tons in the EU. In some cases, national law may allow a higher payload.

Lidl Italia

Lidl Italia has been a supermarket chain in the country since 1992 and currently has a network of 780 points of sale supplied daily by 12 logistics platforms located in the country, employing a total of around 23,000 employees. The shelf offer consists of more than 3,500 carefully selected references, of which more than 80% are produced in Italy and under our own brand to guarantee the customer the best value for money.

LC3 Trasporti

LC3 has been operating in the transport sector since 2009 using a fleet of more than 250 vehicles to date, 70% of which are fueled by 100% sustainable propulsion, with the remaining part consisting of the latest generation Euro 6D vehicles. This is the synthesis of the INBLUE experience, a project designed to eliminate carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions. At the same time, since 2019, the LC3 has introduced nitrogen refrigeration to the Italian market, a zero-emission and 100% sustainable system, immediately putting a fleet of 20 cryo semitrailers on the road. The LC3 specializes in temperature-controlled and container transport to and from Italian ports. It can rely on tracking systems for vehicles and goods transported in Italy and abroad. In 2017, LC3 won the “Presidential Medal of the Republic” award for its sustainable vision in freight transport, recognizing its commitment and green journey.
