Lemminkäinen apartment building granted a ‘Helppo liikkua’ certificate by the Finnish Association of People with Physical Disabilities

21-6-2013 — /europawire.eu/ — Lemminkäinen has been granted a ‘Helppo liikkua’ (Easy access) certificate by the Finnish Association of People with Physical Disabilities (Invalidiliitto) for the building plan for the As Oy Helsingin Aamukahvi apartment building being constructed in the Kahvikortteli site in Vuosaari, Helsinki.

In order to qualify for the ‘Helppo liikkua’ certificate, both the indoor and outdoor areas of the residential building must be functional and designed for accessibility. In the interior spaces, accessibility requirements apply to elements such as the entrance, staircases, lifts, lighting, and door width. The outdoor areas must have clear signage, sufficiently wide and smooth pathways, accessible parking spaces nearby, and a pick-up/drop-off point for escort services.

As Oy Helsingin Aamukahvi is Lemminkäinen’s first apartment building to receive the ‘Helppo liikkua’ certificate. “Our aim is to obtain the award for our residential building projects in several locations.
In addition, we will take the requirements for accessibility into account in all Lemminkäinen’s future residential projects as extensively as possible,” says Vice President Hannele Laine of Lemminkäinen.

‘Helppo liikkua’ is a national campaign launched by the Finnish Association of People with Physical Disabilities, which aims to improve accessibility both at the workplace and in leisure activities.
