With strong support from industry players and innovative campaigns already in place in the Netherlands, KPN aims to extend its leadership by fostering international cooperation and sharing best practices to drive a responsible digital future.

(PRESS RELEASE) ROTTERDAM, 6-Mar-2025 — /EuropaWire/ — KPN is urging its global counterparts to collaborate on building a safer, more inclusive, and eco-friendly internet. At MWC Barcelona—the world’s premier mobile communications conference—the Dutch telecom giant unveiled a declaration of intent calling on telecom providers, NGOs, non-profits, research institutions, and other key stakeholders to join forces under the #BetterInternet initiative. This international appeal emphasizes that creating a superior digital environment hinges on cooperation and shared expertise, with participating organizations pledging to enhance online safety, improve accessibility, protect minors, promote sustainable digital infrastructure, and foster responsible internet usage.

This call for global action is an extension of KPN’s national efforts under the #BeterInternet banner, which have already transformed the Dutch online landscape. Initiatives such as a dedicated TikTok talk show for young audiences, improved digital accessibility for individuals with support needs, and significant strides in greening the network’s energy supply have garnered widespread acclaim. KPN’s campaign against the non-consensual sharing of explicit images, carried out in partnership with organizations including MEAU, Stichting Rutgers, Fonds Slachtofferhulp, Helpwanted, and Soa Aids Nederland, further underscores its commitment to societal well-being.

Marieke Snoep, Chief Consumer Officer at KPN, remarked, “We are all responsible for an internet that helps society move forward. Companies, NGOs, and research institutions can each make a valuable contribution based on their specific expertise. Various organizations have already shown their support, and we are eager to collaborate and build a better internet together.” The plea, published in English on kpn.com/betterinternet, marks a significant step in extending these efforts beyond national borders.

In addition to its digital advocacy, KPN received further accolades at MWC Barcelona when benchmark firm Umlaut named its mobile network the best in the Netherlands and the highest-scoring network globally, achieving an unprecedented score of 989 out of 1,000 based on extensive technical and user-based assessments.

Through this dual approach of international collaboration and national excellence, KPN is positioning itself as a leader in fostering an internet that is not only high-performing but also socially responsible and sustainable.
