(IN BRIEF) Kantonsspital Baden (KSB) is set to become one of Switzerland’s leading smart hospitals through a collaboration with Siemens Smart Infrastructure, which will deploy its Siemens Xcelerator platform. This advanced IoT system, comprising over 7,000 sensors and 2,000 smart asset tags, will improve patient navigation, streamline equipment location, and boost operational efficiency. Siemens’ real-time location services (RTLS) will allow staff to quickly find critical medical equipment, while an app-based navigation system will guide patients throughout the hospital campus, reducing wait times and enhancing service capacity. This partnership also includes Siemens’ building management technologies and Building Information Modeling (BIM) for effective planning, ensuring that KSB provides an ideal recovery environment for patients and an optimized workspace for staff.
(PRESS RELEASE) ZUG, 30-Oct-2024 — /EuropaWire/ — In a significant advancement for healthcare technology, Siemens Smart Infrastructure is partnering with Kantonsspital Baden (KSB) to transform it into one of Switzerland’s most advanced smart hospitals. Through Siemens’ IoT solutions and the powerful Siemens Xcelerator platform, the hospital will integrate over 7,000 sensors and 2,000 smart asset tags to enhance patient care, optimize operational efficiency, and support seamless digital transformation.
The customized IoT platform, based on an open digital business model within the Siemens Xcelerator ecosystem, enables the hospital to scale up innovations and connect diverse data streams from the new KSB facility, scheduled to open in early 2025. With a patient-centered design, the platform brings together critical assets, helping KSB streamline operations and improve energy efficiency in its journey to becoming a model for future healthcare facilities.
To enhance patient navigation, Siemens is introducing an app-based solution that offers a comprehensive digital map of the hospital campus. This navigation tool guides patients to treatment rooms, public transport stops, and on-campus cafes, minimizing delays and boosting the hospital’s service capacity.
An integral component of the system, Siemens’ real-time location services (RTLS), will also benefit KSB’s staff by tracking essential assets like beds, wheelchairs, and medical equipment, reducing search times and improving productivity. Industry research shows that healthcare personnel in facilities without RTLS typically spend over an hour per shift searching for equipment. By leveraging RTLS, KSB aims to eliminate these inefficiencies, leading to faster, higher-quality patient care.
“KSB’s goal of becoming Switzerland’s top smart hospital aligns perfectly with Siemens’ vision of digital transformation in healthcare,” said Adrian Schmitter, CEO of Kantonsspital Baden. Schmitter emphasized the partnership’s focus on creating an optimal environment for patient recovery and an efficient workspace for staff, reflecting the hospital’s dedication to innovation and top-tier care.
Siemens’ healthcare leader Janina Beilner, Senior Vice President of Healthcare at Siemens Smart Infrastructure, highlighted the importance of digital tools and customer collaboration in improving hospital workflows. “Through the Siemens Xcelerator ecosystem, we are building a tailored IoT platform that addresses the unique challenges of healthcare, enabling flexible solutions that can evolve with KSB’s needs,” Beilner stated.
In addition to IoT services, KSB will benefit from Siemens’ robust building management suite, including Desigo CC automation, fire safety solutions, and other essential system controls. Building Information Modeling (BIM) further streamlined the facility’s planning, allowing for efficient project management and coordination across the hospital’s extensive digital infrastructure.
This collaboration marks a milestone in the digital evolution of healthcare in Switzerland, with Siemens’ IoT technology enabling Kantonsspital Baden to achieve new heights in patient-centered, smart hospital innovation.
