Jungheinrich to Deliver Integrated Regional Warehouse for Mainova AG to Centralize Spare Parts Logistics in Frankfurt

(IN BRIEF) Jungheinrich has been selected to build and equip a new Regional Warehouse East for Mainova AG in Frankfurt am Main, centralizing the company’s spare parts logistics to improve efficiency and supply reliability. The facility will consolidate previously decentralized storage operations into a single integrated location serving Mainova’s technical infrastructure for electricity, gas, heat, and water. The warehouse will feature a narrow-aisle pallet storage system with around 6,200 storage locations, supported by Jungheinrich EKX 516 trilateral trucks, as well as small parts storage using eleven vertical lift modules for goods-to-person picking. Additional features include wide-aisle storage areas, cantilever racking for long goods, specialized equipment from Hubtex, and a dedicated hazardous materials storage section. The logistics solution will span several interconnected hall sections designed to enable continuous material flow. The project follows an EU-wide tender process and builds on previous cooperation between Jungheinrich and Mainova. The new warehouse is scheduled to become operational in March 2027.

(PRESS RELEASE) HAMBURG/ FRANKFURT, 11-Mar-2026 — /EuropaWire/ — Jungheinrich has been commissioned to implement a new Regional Warehouse East for Mainova AG in Frankfurt am Main, supporting the energy company’s effort to centralize its spare parts logistics and improve operational efficiency. The new facility will consolidate previously decentralized storage locations into a single hub, allowing Mainova to streamline logistics processes while ensuring higher availability of critical components used in its technical infrastructure.

The warehouse will be located in eastern Frankfurt and will serve as a central supply point for spare parts needed to maintain the company’s electricity, gas, heat, and water infrastructure, which currently serves more than one million people. By bringing spare parts storage together in one integrated system, Mainova aims to improve supply security and ensure faster access to components required for maintenance and repair operations.

At the core of the warehouse concept is a narrow-aisle pallet storage system providing around 6,200 storage locations with rack heights reaching up to 17.1 metres. Two Jungheinrich EKX 516 trilateral trucks will handle storage and retrieval operations within this area. The vehicles are designed for high precision at significant lifting heights and use energy-efficient drive technology, allowing the system to operate economically while maintaining accurate positioning.

The pallet warehouse will be complemented by a dedicated small parts storage area reaching a height of approximately 7.5 metres. Eleven Jungheinrich vertical lift modules will support goods-to-person picking, enabling rapid access to stored components and efficient handling of a wide variety of items. This approach is expected to reduce retrieval times and accelerate spare parts supply when urgently required.

The overall logistics concept also includes a wide-aisle warehouse integrated into the new hall complex. In this section, an EFG 425k electric four-wheel counterbalance truck will manage handling operations. A double-deep pallet racking system will be installed in a ten-metre-high hall segment, where the EFG truck will operate using telescopic forks to maximize storage capacity.

Storage solutions for long goods will be provided through cantilever racking systems installed both in the newly constructed building and in an adjacent existing facility. While the cantilever racks in the new hall will be serviced by the EFG 425k, Jungheinrich will also supply a specialized vehicle from Hubtex to manage the racks located in the existing hall, ensuring consistent integration of all storage areas within the broader warehouse system.

The new facility will also include a dedicated hazardous materials storage area equipped with manually operated shelving. This section will be used to safely store materials such as oils, paints, and other regulated substances. Altogether, the project involves equipping three newly connected hall sections with heights of 25, 10, and 5 metres, along with an additional existing hall. The layout is designed to maintain uninterrupted material flow across the entire facility.

According to Leonid Feldman, Project Manager and Civil Engineer/Architect at Mainova AG, the new warehouse will significantly improve the efficiency and reliability of the company’s spare parts logistics while making effective use of the existing property. Sascha Kaden, Head of Warehouse Management at Mainova and future user of the facility, added that Jungheinrich’s system enables the company to handle a wide range of storage requirements within a unified solution, supporting faster and more dependable logistics operations.

The contract for the project was awarded to Jungheinrich following a Europe-wide tender process, where the company was selected as the preferred bidder based on objective evaluation criteria. The decision also builds on an established partnership between the two companies. In 2022, Jungheinrich successfully completed two smaller warehouse projects for Mainova, demonstrating its capabilities as an integrated logistics system provider.

The new Regional Warehouse East is expected to begin operations in March 2027.
