Infineon’s OptiMOS™ 6 80V MOSFETs Drive Energy Efficiency in AI Servers, Saving Over 1.2 MWh Per Hour in Hyperscale Data Centers

(IN BRIEF) Infineon Technologies has introduced its OptiMOS™ 6 80V power MOSFETs, integrated into an AI server platform by a leading processor manufacturer. These MOSFETs, in a 5×6 mm² dual side cooling package, provide improved efficiency, resulting in substantial energy savings for AI data centers. The increased efficiency of 0.4% means around 4.3 watts saved per kilowatt of load, and scaled to a large data center, this can result in over 1.2 MWh of energy savings every hour. The new solution offers better thermal management and optimized power density, meeting the growing demand for energy-efficient power management in AI server environments. As the demand for AI computing increases, Infineon’s OptiMOS™ 6 80V MOSFETs contribute to a greener and more cost-effective future for data centers.

(PRESS RELEASE) MUNICH, 7-May-2025 — /EuropaWire/ — Infineon Technologies AG has successfully integrated its OptiMOS™ 6 80V power MOSFETs into the intermediate bus converter (IBC) stage of an AI server platform by a major processor manufacturer. The OptiMOS™ 6 MOSFETs, housed in a compact 5×6 mm² dual side cooling (DSC) package, show an efficiency improvement of approximately 0.4%, translating to around 4.3 watts per kilowatt of load savings. The optimization of power efficiency is crucial for energy savings in AI data centers, and when scaled across a hypothetical hyperscale data center with 2,000 racks, this innovation could save over 1.2 MWh per hour, equating to enough energy to charge 25 small electric vehicles. This development not only provides significant cost savings but also contributes to a reduced carbon footprint for data center operators.

Infineon’s OptiMOS™ 6 80V MOSFETs play a critical role in addressing the growing energy-efficiency demands in AI computing. The 5×6 mm² DSC package provides optimized switching performance in hard switching topologies, ensuring high energy efficiency due to lower conduction losses. The dual-side cooling feature supports better thermal management and higher power density, which are essential for AI server environments where space is limited.

As demand for AI continues to rise, power management solutions like the OptiMOS™ 6 MOSFETs will be increasingly important. Infineon’s OptiMOS™ 6 80V MOSFETs are part of a broader range of silicon power MOSFETs designed for AI server applications, offering performance, efficiency, and integration. The portfolio leverages the latest in MOSFET technology, offering variants tailored for specific cooling systems and application needs. Infineon is committed to ensuring product reliability, consistent system uptime, and dependable supply stability.

Infineon’s leadership in power systems spans multiple semiconductor materials, including silicon, silicon carbide (SiC), and gallium nitride (GaN), reinforcing its position as a provider of cutting-edge solutions.
