Infineon Unveils BTM90xx IC Family for Advanced Automotive Motor Control Applications

(IN BRIEF) Infineon Technologies has expanded its MOTIX portfolio with the launch of the BTM90xx family of full-bridge and H-bridge integrated circuits, designed for brushed DC motor applications in automotive systems. These new ICs offer enhanced protection, diagnostic functions, and support for high current limits, making them ideal for use in door, mirror, seat, body, and zone control modules. With compact design and efficient thermal performance, the BTM90xx series also features SPI functionality, daisy-chain support, and an integrated watchdog for added reliability. Infineon provides comprehensive support, including simulation models and evaluation boards, to facilitate easy integration. The new devices are now available for order.

(PRESS RELEASE) MUNICH, 15-Jan-2025 — /EuropaWire/ — As the automotive industry continues to evolve, features that were once considered premium are rapidly becoming standard, particularly in the area of motor control. Infineon Technologies AG is responding to this shift by expanding its product lineup with the MOTIX™ Bridge BTM90xx family, a series of full-bridge and H-bridge integrated circuits (ICs) designed specifically for brushed DC motor applications. These new ICs are part of the broader MOTIX portfolio, which includes low-voltage motor control solutions ranging from driver ICs to highly integrated system-on-chip (SoC) solutions.

The BTM90xx family is especially optimized for automotive applications such as door, mirror, seat, body, and zone control modules, though it can be used in a wide range of other applications. These ICs are engineered for high functionality, enabling compact and intelligent motor control solutions. The devices feature a supply voltage range from 7V to 18V (with an extended range of 4.5V to 40V) and offer extensive protection and diagnostic capabilities, including overtemperature, undervoltage, overcurrent, cross-current, and short-circuit detection. The ICs are designed to handle currents of at least 10A for the BTM901x series and 20A for the BTM902x series. With PWM operation capable of frequencies up to 20 kHz, these devices offer the precision needed for automotive systems.

Additionally, Infineon’s BTM9011EP and BTM9021EP variants are equipped with SPI functionality and a pin-saving daisy-chain feature, which helps reduce system costs. The BTM9021 also includes an integrated watchdog for added safety. With their compact TSDSO-14 package (4.9 x 6.0 mm), these ICs minimize PCB board space while improving thermal performance, making them ideal for automotive designs where space and efficiency are critical.

To assist engineers in evaluating and integrating the BTM90xx series, Infineon offers a comprehensive support package, including technical documentation, simulation models, a power dissipation calculation tool, evaluation boards, and Arduino example code. Additionally, the MOTIX BTM90xx Device Driver and the MOTIX Full Bridge IC Configuration Wizard are available for download at the Infineon Developer Center (IDC), providing further support for design-in efforts.

The MOTIX BTM90xx devices, including the BTM9010EP, BTM9011EP, BTM9020EP, and BTM9021EP, are now available for order. For more information, visit www.infineon.com/BTM90xx.
