FORVIA HELLA to Lead Future of Autonomous Driving with Groundbreaking Control Electronics and €1 Billion in New Contracts

(IN BRIEF) FORVIA HELLA has secured over €1 billion in new orders, including the development of the Advanced Control Module (ACM) for automated driving and the Intelligent Power Distribution Module (iPDM). With production taking place in Timisoara, Romania, and development led from Lippstadt, Germany, these projects underscore FORVIA HELLA’s leadership in intelligent control electronics. The company’s innovative approach includes the world’s first integration of an electronic fuse with its own ASIC and intelligent software, a key technology for the future of automated and electric vehicles.

(PRESS RELEASE) LIPPSTADT, 13-May-2025 — /EuropaWire/ — FORVIA HELLA, a global leader in the automotive supply industry, has further cemented its position in the intelligent, complex control electronics market with a significant new customer order. The company has been selected by a renowned global premium automaker to develop and produce an “Advanced Control Module” (ACM), set for series production in 2028. Additionally, FORVIA HELLA has secured another major contract for the “Intelligent Power Distribution Module” (iPDM), which will enter mass production for another prestigious automotive manufacturer by mid-2025. The combined order value for these two projects exceeds €1 billion, with production taking place in Timisoara, Romania, and development led from Lippstadt, Germany.

The automotive industry’s electrical and electronic architectures are undergoing transformative changes. While vehicles today feature more than 100 individual control units, future vehicle architectures will integrate a far smaller number of control units, consolidating the functions of previous components while significantly increasing their complexity and functionality.

Innovative eFuse-ASIC Integration for Next-Generation Vehicles

A key element of these advancements is the Advanced Control Module, which plays a pivotal role in enabling higher levels of automated driving (L2+). A groundbreaking product within this category, the iConF, was introduced by FORVIA HELLA at the Shanghai Auto Show 2025. The iConF is the world’s first automotive solution to combine an electronic fuse with an application-specific integrated circuit (ASIC) and intelligent software for power management.

This innovative eFuse solution continuously monitors the current flow and consumption in real-time, while the software dynamically manages the distribution of available power across the vehicle. In the event of a fault, overheating, or partial system failure, the eFuse ensures the fail-operational functionality of crucial components, such as radar, sensors, and steer-by-wire systems, ensuring the vehicle’s core safety functions remain intact.

Unlike traditional fuses, which are typically maintenance-intensive and must be placed in accessible areas, electronic fuses offer a maintenance-free solution with a reversible function. This advanced design leads to a reduction of up to 25% in the weight of wiring harnesses due to optimized cable requirements and more efficient construction.

Key to the Future of Autonomous Driving

Jörg Weisgerber, Managing Director of Electronics at FORVIA HELLA, commented, “The development of Advanced Control Modules is essential for the future of automated driving. As vehicles evolve towards software- and service-oriented architectures, this opens up new and highly promising markets. Having been a key player in the body electronics field for over 25 years, producing over 13 million control units annually, FORVIA HELLA is well-equipped to lead the way. This recent major contract underlines our leadership in innovation.”
