Fortum Announces Leadership Change as Tero Holländer to Step Down in August 2025, Anssi Airas to Take Over

(IN BRIEF) Fortum announces that Tero Holländer, Head of Business Line Batteries, will depart the company in August 2025 to pursue new opportunities. Anssi Airas, currently IT Director at Fortum Battery Recycling, will succeed Holländer. Holländer reflects on his rewarding eight years at Fortum, during which the company became an industry leader in battery recycling, including Europe’s largest closed-loop hydrometallurgical facility in Harjavalta. Airas expressed excitement about further advancing Fortum’s battery recycling operations in line with Europe’s electrification goals. The leadership change will take place in June 2025, with Holländer’s departure set for August 9, 2025.

(PRESS RELEASE) ESPOO, 27-May-2025 — /EuropaWire/ — Fortum announces that Tero Holländer, the Head of Business Line Batteries, will leave the company in August 2025 to pursue new opportunities. Holländer will be succeeded by Anssi Airas, currently the IT Director at Fortum Battery Recycling. Airas, who has been with Fortum since 2018, brings significant experience in digitalisation and customer solutions to his new role.

Reflecting on his time at Fortum, Holländer shared, “Over the past eight years, I’ve had the privilege of working alongside an exceptional team, and I am incredibly proud of our achievements. We have established ourselves as a leader in providing comprehensive European solutions for every stage of the battery life cycle, and our Harjavalta facility in Finland remains the largest closed-loop hydrometallurgical battery recycling facility in Europe.” He continued, “Though leaving is a bittersweet decision, I’m confident that the future of Fortum Battery Recycling is in capable hands.”

Anssi Airas expressed his enthusiasm for continuing Fortum’s efforts in battery recycling, stating, “Europe’s electrification goals cannot be realized without sustainable battery recycling solutions.
