Fincantieri Completes Construction of Norwegian Luna at Marghera Shipyard for Norwegian Cruise Line

(IN BRIEF) Fincantieri has delivered the cruise ship Norwegian Luna to Norwegian Cruise Line during a ceremony at the Marghera shipyard in Venice. The vessel is the second ship in the expanded Prima Plus Class being built by Fincantieri for the cruise operator and follows the delivery of Norwegian Aqua in 2025. With a gross tonnage of 156,000, a length of 321 meters and capacity for more than 3,550 passengers, Norwegian Luna is about 10 percent larger than the original Prima Class vessels Norwegian Prima and Norwegian Viva. The ship features a range of entertainment and leisure attractions including the Aqua Slidecoaster water-rollercoaster hybrid, the Glow Court digital sports complex, the Luna Midway amusement-style outdoor area and the Moon Climber obstacle course, along with the Ocean Boulevard 360-degree promenade. Around 3,000 workers from Fincantieri and partner companies participated in the final construction phase. The delivery comes shortly after Fincantieri and Norwegian Cruise Line Holdings signed a new agreement to build three next-generation cruise ships scheduled for delivery between 2030 and 2037, further strengthening the long-standing partnership between the two companies.

(PRESS RELEASE) TRIESTE, 6-Mar-2026 — /EuropaWire/ — Fincantieri has delivered the cruise ship Norwegian Luna to Norwegian Cruise Line (NCL) during a ceremony held at the company’s Marghera shipyard in Venice, Italy. The vessel represents the second ship in the expanded Prima Plus Class currently being built by the Italian shipbuilder for the cruise operator.

The delivery ceremony was attended by several senior executives from both organizations. Representing Fincantieri were Biagio Mazzotta, Chairman of Fincantieri, and Luigi Matarazzo, General Manager of the Merchant Ships Division. Representatives from Norwegian Cruise Line and its parent company Norwegian Cruise Line Holdings Ltd. included Marc Kazlauskas, President of Norwegian Cruise Line; Patrik Dahlgren, Executive Vice President and Chief Vessel Operations and Newbuild Officer at NCLH; and Daniel S. Farkas, Executive Vice President and General Counsel of NCLH.

Norwegian Luna follows the delivery of Norwegian Aqua, which Fincantieri completed in 2025. Both ships belong to the expanded Prima Plus Class, a development of the original Prima Class vessels that includes Norwegian Prima and Norwegian Viva. Compared with the first two ships in the class, the new vessels are approximately 10 percent larger, reflecting the cruise line’s focus on offering expanded onboard experiences and passenger space.

The ship has a gross tonnage of around 156,000, measures 321 meters in length, and accommodates more than 3,550 guests. Like its sister vessels, Norwegian Luna was designed with an emphasis on spacious outdoor areas, contemporary design and a wide range of entertainment options.

Among the key attractions on board is the Aqua Slidecoaster, a hybrid attraction combining elements of a rollercoaster and a waterslide. The vessel also features Glow Court, a digital sports complex with an interactive LED floor designed for both sports activities and immersive entertainment experiences.

Another entertainment space is the Luna Midway, an outdoor area inspired by classic amusement parks, offering carnival-style games and family-oriented activities. The ship also includes Moon Climber, a multi-level obstacle course designed to provide interactive recreation for guests of different ages.

Continuing the design features introduced in earlier ships in the class, Norwegian Luna also includes Ocean Boulevard, a 360-degree outdoor promenade that surrounds the vessel and provides guests with expansive ocean views and outdoor leisure spaces.

The construction and final preparation of the ship involved approximately 3,000 people, including employees from Fincantieri and partner companies working onboard during the final stages of production.

The delivery of Norwegian Luna follows closely after a significant announcement regarding the ongoing collaboration between the two companies. Fincantieri and Norwegian Cruise Line Holdings Ltd. recently signed an agreement for the construction of three additional next-generation cruise ships, further strengthening their long-term partnership.

The new agreement includes one additional vessel for Norwegian Cruise Line, in addition to the four ships previously covered under the large shipbuilding order announced in February 2025. These next-generation ships are expected to be delivered between 2030 and 2037, extending the strategic collaboration between the shipbuilder and the cruise company well into the next decade.

The delivery of Norwegian Luna highlights the continued cooperation between Fincantieri and Norwegian Cruise Line as both companies expand their fleets and develop new cruise experiences for passengers worldwide.
