Fincantieri and TUI Cruises Celebrate the Launch of Mein Schiff Flow, Advancing Sustainable Cruising with Dual-Fuel Technology

(IN BRIEF) Fincantieri and TUI Cruises have launched Mein Schiff Flow, the second vessel in TUI Cruises’ new InTUItion class, designed for dual-fuel operation with LNG and MGO. This advanced, eco-friendly ship is set to enter service in mid-2026 and features numerous sustainability initiatives, including energy-efficient systems and the ability to use low-emission fuels. Mein Schiff Flow follows the delivery of Mein Schiff Relax in February 2025 and marks a step forward in TUI Cruises’ commitment to climate-neutral cruising. The vessel will also incorporate cutting-edge waste treatment technology and near-emission-free operations while in port.

(PRESS RELEASE) TRIESTE, 30-May-2025 — /EuropaWire/ — Fincantieri and TUI Cruises, a joint venture between TUI AG and Royal Caribbean Cruises, have celebrated the launch of Mein Schiff Flow at Fincantieri’s Monfalcone shipyard. This vessel marks the second of two next-generation InTUItion class cruise ships, designed for dual-fuel operation using Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) and Marine Gas Oil (MGO). Mein Schiff Flow follows its sister ship, Mein Schiff Relax, which was delivered in February 2025, and is scheduled to begin its service in mid-2026.

The launch ceremony was attended by Daniele Fanara, Senior Vice President of New Building and After Sales at Fincantieri’s Merchant Ships Division, Cristiano Bazzara, Director of the Monfalcone shipyard, and Wybcke Meier, CEO of TUI Cruises.

Weighing approximately 160,000 gross tons, Mein Schiff Flow builds on a groundbreaking design by Fincantieri, incorporating the modernity and sustainability features that TUI Cruises is known for, particularly its ecological innovations. The ship will be at the forefront of energy efficiency, with the primary goal of reducing operational consumption and minimizing its environmental footprint, in line with the most recent regulations. The vessel will run on LNG and is designed to be future-ready, capable of utilizing low-emission fuels such as bio- or e-LNG, representing a significant leap towards climate-neutral cruising.

Mein Schiff Flow will be equipped with catalytic converters that meet Euro 6 standards, a steam turbine that recycles residual heat from the diesel generators, and an electrical shore-power connection, ensuring near-emission-free operation during port stays, which account for around 40% of its operational time. Furthermore, the ship will feature a highly efficient waste treatment system, capable of converting organic waste into recyclable components through a thermal process.
