(IN BRIEF) Expro has introduced the BRUTE® Armor Packer—its most advanced high-pressure, high-tensile system—for deepwater wells, offering the market’s highest differential pressure rating and the ability to set higher in the wellbore to save rig time and reduce risk. Combined with the BRUTE® 2 Storm Valve, it forms the highest-rated Storm/Service Packer and Valve combo available. The technology was first deployed in April 2025 on a 20k Gulf of America project, where the 12,850 psid-rated, 12.25-inch system proved its integrity in extreme conditions. Expro also launched a 20″/22″ Packer System that doubles traditional element expansion to overcome ID limits posed by subsea high-pressure wellhead housings and supplemental casing adapters. This launch introduces the BRUTE® Armor Packer, a significant step forward in the evolution of Expro’s BRUTE® portfolio. As a recognized frontrunner in deepwater downhole technology, Expro was selected by a super-major for a high-spec 20k project in the Gulf of America. The first field application validated the system’s pressure integrity and robustness in demanding downhole conditions, culminating in the April 2025 release and successful deployment of the 12,850 psid-rated, 12.25-inch BRUTE® Armor Packer System.

Following that success, Expro has rolled out a new 20-inch/22-inch Packer System to tackle long-standing issues with retrievable mechanical packers of those sizes—particularly internal diameter restrictions linked to subsea high-pressure wellhead housings and supplemental casing adapters. Offering double the element expansion range of conventional mechanical packers, the tool provides dependable, efficient performance for casing testing, suspension and squeeze jobs, without sacrificing operational efficiency.

The inaugural run of the 20-inch/22-inch system occurred in June 2025 during a prominent offshore campaign for another super-major in the Gulf of America. The packer navigated the tight confines of the high-pressure wellhead housing and supplemental casing adapter, then was positioned in a larger ID section below. On its first attempt, it achieved full element expansion and confirmed pressure integrity—validating the enhanced expansion design and enabling effective casing isolation while further reducing rig time and risk.
