(PRESS RELEASE) DARMSTADT, 4-Sep-2024 — /EuropaWire/ — Evonik has transitioned its production of ROHACELL® high-performance foams at its Darmstadt site to run entirely on renewable energy. This shift to green electricity, supported by Power Purchase Agreements (PPA) and green electricity certificates, is expected to cut CO2 emissions by 3,400 metric tons annually. The move aligns with Evonik’s broader sustainability goals, particularly within its High Performance Polymers business line, which aims to generate over 50% of its sales from sustainable products by 2030.

Dr. Werner Escher, head of Evonik’s Foams & PEEK product line, highlighted the importance of this upgrade, stating, “This decisive step reinforces our commitment to sustainability, helping our customers achieve greener manufacturing outcomes.”

ROHACELL® foams, known for their lightweight, rigid structure and ability to withstand high temperatures and pressures, are crucial in industries such as aerospace, electronics, and medical technology. The foam is often used in composite materials, contributing to the production of stronger, lighter end-products like parts for high-speed trains and electric vehicles, which benefit from increased efficiency and reduced carbon emissions.

This upgrade is a significant stride towards Evonik’s vision of providing environmentally friendly solutions, ensuring that ROHACELL® continues to meet the growing demand for sustainable materials in high-end applications.
