European Society of Cardiology’s administrative headquarters the European Heart House (EHH) celebrated its 20th anniversary in Sophia Antipolis

Sophia Antipolis, 25-9-2013 — /EuropaWire/ — The European Heart House celebrated its 20th anniversary this week in style. Founded in 1950, the European Society of Cardiology inaugurated its offices in Sophia Antipolis in 1993.

“Our mission is to reduce the burden of cardiovascular disease in Europe,” said Prof Michel Bertrand, ex President of the European Society of Cardiology (ESC) during the celebrations which took place at the society’s headquarters this Monday. “Scientific advances promoted by European cardiologists have contributed to extending lives by 10 years,” he reminded the attendees, which included the Deputy and Mayor of Antibes and Juan les Pins, the Mayor of Biot and the architect of the European Heart House.

“ESC congresses and Clinical Practice Guidelines – among other activities – which have contributed to promote research in the field of cardiology are all coordinated from the European Heart House. Delegates from over 150 countries attend our congresses and our guidelines are used by doctors all over the world, so we can truly say that ESC activities, which are based locally, have a global impact,” said Prof Bertrand.

The CEO of the European Society of Cardiology, Isabel Bardinet, also highlighted that “the ESC has been active in promoting research and innovation in cardiology. In view of the explosion of obesity, diabetes as well as the huge health inequalities in Europe, the ESC is now undertaking a more political role in order to create awareness in European instances, about the need to implement policies to create a heart healthy environment.”  “We have come a long way since 1950 when the society was founded. The 150 members of the ESC team look forward to continuing their work to help advance science and promote healthy living,” concluded Mrs. Bardinet.
