European Investment Bank and Investitionsbank des Landes Brandenburg Celebrate 30 Years of Successful Partnership

(IN BRIEF) The European Investment Bank (EIB) and the Investitionsbank des Landes Brandenburg (ILB) marked nearly three decades of collaboration at the EIB’s Berlin office. Since 1995, they have joined forces to finance various regional projects in the German state of Brandenburg, with 47 financial contracts amounting to €3.21 billion. Their partnership has focused on funding projects related to physical and social infrastructure, environmental initiatives, job creation through SMEs and Midcaps, and more. Both institutions are committed to continuing their cooperation to address challenges in energy, climate, demographics, and digital transitions in Brandenburg, while remaining open to exploring new forms of collaboration beyond intermediated financing.

(PRESS RELEASE) LUXEMBOURG, 29-Nov-2023— /EuropaWire/ — At the EIB`s Berlin office, the European Investment Bank (EIB) and the Investitionsbank des Landes Brandenburg (ILB) have celebrated almost 30 years of their partnership. Both public development banks have been cooperating in funding regional projects in the German State of Brandenburg that is surrounding Berlin. Since 1995, 47 financial contracts have been signed with an overall volume of €3.21 billion.

In line with the Public Policy Goals of both institutions, the cooperation has concerned the financing of:

  • Physical capital: regional and municipal public infrastructure in the energy, water, transport and digital sectors
  • Human Capital: social infrastructure, like social housing, schools and hospitals, accommodations for migrants
  • Natural Capital: environmental projects, especially in the lignite-area Lausitz
  • Jobs and Employment: through the funding of SMEs and Midcaps

The EIB and ILB intend to keep a solid level of cooperation, to support the State of Brandenburg in view of the challenges of the energy, climate, demographic and digital transitions. The two institutions remain open to explore new forms of cooperation beyond intermediated financing.
