(PRESS RELEASE) LEMFOERDE, 2-Apr-2025 — /EuropaWire/ — At CHINAPLAS 2025 in Shenzhen, BASF is showcasing its breakthrough contribution to prosthetic technology through Össur’s Pro-Flex® Terra foot prosthesis, which incorporates BASF’s innovative Cellasto® microcellular material. This material mimics human muscle-tendon dynamics, providing exceptional softness, flexibility, and energy return. Its distinctive three-step foam design adapts effortlessly to diverse walking conditions—ranging from leisurely strolls and hiking to high-impact sports—without the need for any mechanical or electronic adjustments, ensuring consistent and robust performance even in extreme temperatures and varied environments like the beach, pool, or shower. Rigorous lifecycle tests, including over two million overloaded steps, have validated the durability and performance of Cellasto®, with foam densities carefully optimized for nine specific user weight and size categories. BASF’s application development engineers supported the project from concept to production using an efficient tooling strategy on fully automated mold lines.

Felix Starker, Product Designer at Össur, explained, “Our ambition was to combine the best features of multiple prosthetic feet into one. The Pro-Flex® Terra blends the comfort needed for everyday use with the high energy return required for active lifestyles, enhancing mobility and quality of life.” Bjoern Kophstahl, Vice President of Global Business Management for Cellasto®, added, “Cellasto® strikes a unique balance between comfort and functionality, and we are proud to partner with Össur to deliver tailored prosthetic solutions that improve mobility for users worldwide.”
